Followed the instructions that are posted in the hack forum. Pretty easy. Only problem is one of the instructions are wrong (Wanna say its 10). You install the DroidRootHelper apk file ziped too your sd card and rename it there. Took me as while to figure that out.
The instructions ask that you unzip and install which is wrong. Other than that its pretty straight forward.

update.zip
You can download through your phone if you have Astro. You don't need to rename it. It's ready. You then install like the last update.

after all that talk you tried it that's good.

You dont even have to root. You can have all the benefits of 2.1 (minus live wallpapers and the 5 screens). Crackberry has a thread with the new gallery, new dock clock and widget. You install these as apps.and delete whenever you want. All without having to root.

Anyone have any suggestions on the problem Im having rooting my phone so I can install 2.1? I downloaded the update.zip and moved it to my sdcard, followed all the directions and when I get to the point where I use the update it says the file/directory does not exist. Have had this problem and cannot find a solution to it. I want 2.1 dangit... :)

Download Astro and download through your phone. Then mount your SD card and move the file from the downloads folder to the main file directory.

make sure you go into you sd card and check the directory and what are you doing that you need the update. you should only need the update file in your nandroid folder and all the rest should be done with the phone in recovery

I thought they already updated the to 2.1? I thought that when they updated the slide, improved the camera focus and some other things?

Anyone else having problems with google voice after v4? I try to set up the account in call setting its just keep saying its reading setting then goes no further.

How easy is it to go back to 2.0.1 after you root your phone? I think that's the main reason I'm holding out right now. I really want to see all the pretty new features, but I want to go back to something that's more reliable after I look around for a few days.

Is it a lot of work to do a backup and restore and all that? I've never done something like that before. Are your application settings preserved?

its very easy just reflash you phone with the 2.01 zip file and no to do this upgrade to have to wipe you phone so you lose everything but its too easy to restore you phone
