So I was poking around the internet and i found alot of sites rumoring that android 3.0 would require 512mb of ram. However the fascinate only comes with 384 or something along those lines. Do you guys think we will get the update? I mean i love my device (other than the fact that my gps is a dud, i stood there for 40 minutes waiting for it to lock and it never did) but might it be wiser to trade it in for a droid x or droid 2?

I'm within my thirty days still and love the fascinate but all that i've been reading (which lately isnt doing me any good i should just stop) says that samsung is known to stop supporting their devices after a little while and that technically we may not be able to run 3.0. Id hate to spend what i did to only get froyo.

Thanks,
Brian

this also worries me. Instead of trading in for a droid x.. which has been bootloaded.. what about the htc merge when it comes out next month probably?

rumors also stated that it needed a 1 ghz processor, doesn't the merge have an 800mhz one? i may be wrong, also if i return this phone and just wait all i have left is a blackberry tour that dies in 4 hours even if its just idle.

*Edit also the merge supposedly comes with the same amount of ram as the fascinate

lol well if i return i get my samsung rogue hahahaha. Im in the same boat as you... I love the fascinate but IDK what to do.. I have less than a week to return.

i have about 2 weeks left. i love that the fascinate can be fully customized because it doesn't have the bootloader problem, but i think I'd rather have future google releases over custom roms and such.

but what happens if you return and you cant get gingerbread on your droid x because of bootloader, and turns out fascinate CAN get it

Did you turn the GPS on before starting the navigation program?

The GPS on my Fascinate works just fine, I don't understand how others are having problems unless it is oporator error.

yeah i turned it on, and i even tried various location service settings as someone suggested last night (did the initial test a couple days ago). I have to say nothing can get it to obtain my location. im convinced the gps in my phone is broken, which i guess is possible. i could get a lemon

I'm not worried about gingerbread I'll probably have 2 more phones before gingerbread even hits a device. I've had 5 phones in the last year so I'll keep whatever i'm happy with right now

I'm still on my family plan since I'm away at school so I'm pretty much locked into a contract for 2 years (somehow i managed to upgrade after only a year idk why, its never been like that before). So i have to try to futureproof my purchase as much as possible

the ill be kicking myself in the behind haha, but i feel like google would support the "official" droid line longer than the galaxy s

But if you go to the x forums.. they still have not figured it out...

just throwing out some arguments because I dont know what to do with my fascinate.

how do you think the fascinate will compare to other phones after we receive the ota 2.2?

It was rumored that only phones with a 1ghz processor would get 2.2 yet the G2 has froyo. Until we hear otherwise I wouldn't worry. By the way, I doubt Verizon will give us GINGERBREAD. They will want us to upgrade by then. I wouldn't think phones will see 3.0 till summer of next year.

Edit - sorry, ment gingerbread, not froyo. We'll get froyo eventually.

yeah third part developers haven't, moto devs have the unlock key.

did you mean gingerbread? because we're definitely getting froyo.

as for the official update, being that this phone is unlocked and the x is locked, at least we have the modding community as an option to get updates that the manuf. don't want to make anymore.

btw, it's up to the manufacturer on what updates we get. google releases the basic code, then companies like samsung or motorola make it work with the phone if they choose to.

all verizon really does is specify if they want something specific in it (ie: bing) and test it to make sure it's stable enough for them.

im sort of confused. We all know we are getting froyo.. probably within a month?

wouldn't it make sense for the newer phones to get a 3.0 update from motorola. After all the original droid received updates all the way up to 2.2 and now the droid 2 is shipping with 2.2. I'd think it'd get at least one major update..could be wrong though
