Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC EVO 3D

@ Waprdrive

Sense is its own UI.... I see NO gingerbread in Sense. Its working on Gingerbread but there is NOTHING visual in Sense that says hey, im gingerbread.

Rosie is the launcher for sense and makes sense what it is....

4.0, looks so nice on its own that once they throw sense on top of it... its still gonna look the same.

Sense is a LAUNCHER.... changes the visual UI.

Hence how some hate and how some love sense.

I personally go back n forth but I cant wait for some stripped down ported ICS love for our EVO 3D's.

I agree, Sence is the UI. Of course you don't see gingerbread. Gingerbread is the OS, not the UI.
The UI on a stock Android nexus is still a blank slate. In other words, once you invest in adding widgets and other stuff, it is no longer stock Android. Adding launchers changes everything about the "look" of the UI but still doesn't normally remove a feature or prevent something from working....it is still gingerbread in all its glory, but just unpolished.

Sence just makes that blank slate polished.
Think about it, if the EVO3D didn't have the spinning effect and you removed the widgets, how would it look any different then a blank nexus? When you flick the screen to the left or right (with no widgets on the screens) just what are you seeing different on the nexus phone? What makes the last nexus "look" gingerbreadish?

I agree, some people will never like any form of Sence. Just like I'm not a fan of touchwiz. But we are now talking about the UI or launcher and not gingerbread or ICS.
So if I missed something and ICS has some type of polished UI, then once again, ICS is just the OS with little to no special look or feel to it...or a blank slate again for you to build on.

I happen to like Sense. I believe we can have the best of both worlds with the combination of Sense and ICS. :D

Not to argue but what i think you are saying is that you like Sence 3.0. But what if HTC decided to make the new ICS UI more like Sence 3.5? What if you hate the look or feel of 3.5? What if you love the spinning effect and must have it?

My point is that some people have fears about just what it could look like. I personally think it will be more like Sence 3.5 then anything like we have now.

I personally don't like how bloated the os is. 650mb of space, 2 minutes to boot. Stock Android is 150 and boots in 20 seconds. Plus uses a lot less RAM.

If sense were more lean and less sluggish I would be a bigger fan

Lol, true. You can't please everyone. I do happen to like Sense 3.0 but there are probably things I will like about 3.5 and ICS too. As for bloat, the reason I love Android is because you can root and get rid of a lot of the stuff you don't want. If a person isn't interested in rooting then I guess that way to go would be a Nexus phone. I have the NS4G and like it a lot, oddly enough in spite of my previous statement, because it's simplicity allows you full customization. Lol that and because it was very easy to unlock the bootloader and root ;) My only problem with it, which I didn't notice until I went out of town, is that my NS4G has weaker reception than my EVO 3D.

It will be fun and exciting to see how ICS works with both devices! :D

But ICS used dual core processors way better then GB. So there is a good chance that we all will see a performance boost.

CarrieK,

You can already see what Sence 3.5 is like on one or two new HTC phones. If i get a chance later I'll look it up for you if you can't find them. Again, I'm sure it will be close to what Sence 3.5 is....non rotating pages with the home screen having a few widget like icons on the main page.

But just to be clear, it should be called Sence 4.0 as 3.5 is already out.

I hate the spinning carousel effect, the stupid spacing of icons and the non scrolling wallpaper of sense 3.0. I also agree with the long boot time and large footprint. I want to enjoy ICS and that won't be possible with a HTC device sadly. When the GN comes to sprint I'm going stock Android.

I think it'll be simaler to what they did with honeycomb sense. Look at the leaked flyer rom.

Sense UI is one of the few things that have kept me on the Android platform. Then again I have not seen 4.0 yet. So until I see a clean UI of 4.0 I hold back any judgement. Sense on my current device is alot better than GB IMO. So maybe keeping is good...Then again if it looks and feels like WebOS then bring a clean 4.0 UI. I would be cool with that too!

We'll be seeing ICS sooner than we think. I'm not sure if all HTC phones will see ICS, but which ever phone can be updated I'm sure HTC will update.

it doesn't matter if we get ICS, sense will prevail making the upgrade unnoticeable.
Nonetheless - the upgrade will be worth it for me. I love HTC phones and absolutely admire the awesomeness of sense 3.0.

Don't make it seem like they'll just slap sense 3.0 on ICS. I'm sure it'll have adjustments to cater to new features of ICS. When the new sense comes out some will like it, some will hate it. same as always, you can't please everyone.

Thanks for posting this up, I was just going to ask if ICS really took advantage of dual core processor phones.

:eek:Seriously, it takes your phone 2 minutes to boot? My 3VO can do a complete shutdown and boot in less than a minute (averages 31 seconds when i time it from start to finish and not stop counting until i am able to open an app from my home screen successfully)

go into power settings, is fast boot on? The near 2 minutes is with fast boot off because when I reboot, I want a full out reboot from scratch.
