Android 4.1.2 OTA Update Now Rolling Out to Nexus 7 - Adds Landscape Mode

Did the 4.1.2 update extend the display sleep timer to 30 minutes? I thought the max was 10 minutes (the max on HD Widgets is 10 mins).

on my Nexus phone on 4.1.1 it has the 30 min option. shouldnt be any different than Nexus 7.
You would have missed it before.

I think I remember that tablet. :v Did it start with a Samsung? lol

But yah, the staggering can suck, but it's better than an unexpectedly broken device.

Actually, it was a 'fruit' device that doesn't keep the doctor away. ;) I still, to this day, enjoy this other tablet, but the Nexus 7 really showcased a better screen and finally, IMO, a smooth Android experience. Plus having apps makes the Nexus 7 a lot more enjoyable. Just so much more to do on it!

Ohhh. Ok. I got ya. :P

Samsung did release that update that broke Wi-Fi on their Galaxy 10.1 though. Since it's a Wi-Fi tablet, it was especially hilarious. They didn't stagger their update and could've caught it in time if they had.

Anyone else having issues with Chrome after updating?
I've seen wierd flickering of Chrome on my HTC Amaze running 4.0.3 with Sense on top. Nothing noticed so far on 4.1.2. Try a known good, simple page. I wouldn't trust Yahoo! these days.
Question with this, can you lock it in landscape?
Yep. I'm not sure I like landscape, but I DO like the unlock screen will adapt to landscape if you have auto-rotate on. Yay, no more drawing my unlock pattern sideways!

Oh. Wait. I installed EAS to connect to my work systems. And our certificate requires PIN or password. Yay, no more entering a PIN sideways! :D

You know why the update is rolling out? Because I got tired of waiting and did mine manually. After fighting with drivers, I finally got it to update manually. And then, lo and behold, the update starts rolling out. It happens every time!

Glad it's finally rolling out!

For those with the slowdown issue: I'll be extensively testing this update to see it it fixes our problem. SO FAR, I am noticing a bump in speeds with transitions and scrolling! Its like it was when I first got it so far so there's hope! I'll post my finding with more testing but so far, this looks promising!
I'm not familiar with this ... do you have a bug number or other reference for this issue?

Just curious, show of hands, how many of you really really needed this update to clear an obstacle like this one?** If your N7 wasn't non-functioning, just wait already. There's nothing in this update besides a Roman chaise home screen that you will notice. My impression after a day is this is primarily a bug-fix release. Let's all go back to gnawing off our fingernails waiting for the 2012 Nexus phone.

** Or this one....

This makes sense. Without mentioning names, another tablet I use had an update that was pulled a couple days later. This caused some confusion for some people as half the community was on one version and half on another. Plus it made it a huge mess for Beta testers as they couldn't downgrade to a Release version anymore because of this.

So, I guess if Google is trying to protect me from major mistakes, then I can wait a few days and let other people take the plunge. :)

This also happened on the Thunderbolt with the Gingerbread release. The first cut at it featured many of the same things seen here (except, of course, the ranting was a little more understandable because we had been waiting over six months since the original promised delivery date of Gingerbread). Verizon wisely staggered the update, mostly to save the load on their servers, but it turned out to be a damned good thing because it started causing all sorts of random crap like text messages being sent to the wrong person. A few people had been reporting it when the first RUU came out, but when the release actually started all hell broke loose. Some phones bricked, never to see signal again, and had to be replaced outright. Random data drops. Stuck voicemail indicators with no way of being told someone left you a voicemail. All manner of lovely things.

The update got pulled on the first day, and it was a few weeks before a second Gingerbread build came out, which fixed most of the issues from the first one and was a remarkably smooth rollout.

You stagger changes like this out slowly for a day or two and listen for the screams. You make the download available early for those who want to take the risk of adopting it on the first day, because they are the type of experienced and obsessive-compulsive people who can identify the causes of problems and are likely to report them.

This is PRECISELY how it should be done.

Well, second only to getting everything perfect the first time around. But anyone who has been involved in any way in writing even simple programs is probably laughing so hard they can count it as exercise but will need to stop and breathe at some point.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, then. I figured it would come out about .0000005 seconds after I downloaded it manually, but you obviously beat me to it. :)

Just got mine. Just picked it up and saw the notification for new firmware. Screen roll between landscape and portrait is more fluid than with the nova launcher.
