Android 4.1.2 OTA Update Now Rolling Out to Nexus 7 - Adds Landscape Mode

You stagger changes like this out slowly for a day or two and listen for the screams. You make the download available early for those who want to take the risk of adopting it on the first day, because they are the type of experienced and obsessive-compulsive people who can identify the causes of problems and are likely to report them.

This is PRECISELY how it should be done.

Agreed, except that AFAIK Google only released an update that could be installed if the user was rooted. When you do that, you only get report of issues from people who are rooted, and obviously those users could have other factors influencing the performance of the device. IMO they should have released an update that could be installed w/o root for the early adopters who haven't rooted and don't want to do so.

No, you just needed to use ADB to sideload it, using the recovery tool that is built into the operating system for this purpose. There's no root involved in the 4.1.2 update.

You CAN root the device if you want, of course, but that's a completely separate and unrelated process. And unless you have a special utility like rootkeeper installed, this update will actually remove root access, because it's a factory image.

That's what they did Tuesday, friend. Sideloading an update via Recovery doesn't require root. My N7 was stock 4.1.1, no hacks. ... Or maybe I misunderstand your claim....?

Checked for update, but said I was current. Cleared data in Google Services Framework and it instantly updated.

Have u cleared data in Google Services Framework ? That's howw I got my two devices updated today

few here in this thread said that it didn't break the root after updating but if you are concerned about clearing framework would break the root its a No as well.. read through the topic.

Wtf is google services framework and htf do you clear it -- from an android freshman.

Don't bother, that doesn't do anything. I cleared it 10 times and restarted too and still no update. It has nothing to do with whether you get the update.

Is this like the slowest roll out ever? The reason I went with a nexus was to get quick updates. I should have waited on the iPad mini.

Just got home and the update was waiting for me. Installing now.

My update hit sometime today - I was working away from my tablet and when I checked it at 4 the system update message greeted me.

I wasn't that keen on the screen rotation, but I have to admit several apps (notably Gmail) are much nicer this way.

No, it's a staggered roll-out. It's how Google always does them to make sure no bugs pop up and effect the majority of users rather than just the minority.

right. which doesn't exist.

which IS part of a closed garden. I've read that JB iOS devices leaves them laggy, so that may not be a great option.

besides, Apple has ENOUGH MONEY NOW. Spread your bucks around to some other company, PLEASE.

Not. Even. Close. Verizon rollouts can take weeks, after waiting six to eight months after the original date the manufacturer turned it over to them.

Well clearing the Google services framework worked on one of my tablets and I have the update now. My wifes tablet following same procedure did not receive it. Tablets used and bought in the UK.
