android 4.3 bugs with nexus 4

Thanks for most of the replies, help me to determine my bugs are Netflix related.

Don't listen to the self proclaimed smug experts on this thread, the OTA update works fine, no need for a wipe & total reset for every upgrade.

Thanks for the update! It's good to know that you don't need to do a factory reset just to upgrade to 4.3.

Nobody said you have to. Some would just prefer see that option available for an ota. It is those that root and flash roms, the ones you don't see coming on here starting posts that this and that don't work and saying 4.3 is horrible, that realize what kind of bugs can be introduced. Those are the ones that recommend doing clean installs, and that is just a recommendation. To each his own, but when there are issues after flashing, the first thing the carriers and manufacturers will have you do is hard reset before they will even troubleshoot. Unfortunately, the security changes in this update broke many apps, yet the blame is being placed on the rom when it is just a matter of waiting on devs to update their apps for 4.3 compatibility.

It's amazing that some people have apparently learned how to turn on a smart phone, and yet, can't grasp the very simple fact about the apps needing to be updated, and would rather whine about 4.3 being ng.

I had some issues with 4.3 the biggest of which was the phone got very warm for no apparent reason. GPS not on, not playing a video game, etc.

I did do the "force ota update" method. Since then I did a full wipe/stock recovery to 4.2 and all is good again.

My personal feeling is that the upgrade to 4.3 should be done as a stock recovery as well. Everyone I know that did it this way is not experiencing the same number of problems (but that is just my small sampling of buddies).

I now have the OTA update message in the notifications and might try a legit upgrade but I'll have those stock images handy.

I am not a technical person when it comes to technology so I do not really understand the in's and out's of OS's. I have had my Nexus 4 for almost 5 months. It was perfectly fine until I got Android 4.3. Initially, the phone would just switch off at < 30% battery. It has steadily gotten worse. Now it shuts off at 70%. Prior to 4.3, my phone would never shut off even when it hit the 2% mark. Has 4.3 somehow ruined my battery or what? I have no idea what to do and any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Once the phone turns off, I cannot turn it on without it being plugged in to the charger at which point it shows 0% battery. Is there any way to go back to 4.2???

I would like to add my problem as it seems like no one else has this particular issue. My phone keeps locking the simcard. It looks like the phone rebooted, but it isn't, because it's way to quick. It just flashes and then comes up with a locked sim (I have to enter my pin). When I unlock it, it takes a few minutes to reconnect to the mobile network. It is very frustrating because it happens more than twenty times a day and when it does, I cannot be called and don't receive any data.

It all started with the update to Jellybean 4.3.

I can't use my phone as a navigation gps now. It overheats to the point that it stops it self from charging in the car.

Since 4.3 sometimes touchscreen is unresponsive when I have an incoming call. I have to put it to sleep and wake up few times before it becomes responsive and lets me swype and answer. However from the first time when I put it to sleep, ringing mutes as it should.

I'm not sure its a bug to 4.3 or not but last night I unplugged my Nexus 4 from the charger and had something strange happen. The touch screen is completely unresponsive. Not just in the middle as I have read about. Nothing responds. So through stock recovery I wiped it thinking there was something wrong with maybe an app or something. Complete factory wipe and still nothing. Any thoughts?

Hold the power button for 15 seconds, that's the same as a battery pull.

I have this too. And no, I don't have Netflix installed. The problem: I tried to flash 4.2.2 back on my phone, but it has the same problems: sudden shutdowns, batterydrain and not restarting unless plugged in. After a restart, the battery meter very quickly climbs back to the level I had before the drain. Another problem: sometimes after a failed restart (because it wasn't plugged in), it reverts my wall paper back to the one the image came with.

Mine doesn't ask for my pin, it just goes to 'emergency calls only' restarting (while plugged in) usually restores the connection, but it's a hassle...

My nexus freezes - goes back to the logon page each time after I've swiped in my code. Have to force it to shut down

But my biggest problem is I can no longer upload photos from dropbox to either trip adviser or my WordPress blog. Just says file failed to open. Used to work perfectly before the upgrade. V annoying. Is there a setting I need to change?

I don't know if I'd call it a bug, but 5GHz wifi range has plummeted on both mine & my brothers N4 with the 4.3 update. And we both have N4s from different batches. Switching to 2.4GHz and my range is massively better (literally exponentially better).

Router/APs I use: Netgear WNDR 4720 & D6300.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced but noticed since 4.3 update when first powering on the device bootup screen appears to come on before initial vibrate...very minor annoyance I know :P

Same here, I also like the old way it use to turn on

I get the SIM lock thing as well. It's not a reboot as I've very often listening to music on the train home and the music is not interrupted. When I take the phone out of my pocket, it's sat prompting me to put in the SIM unlock code.

My fiance's nexus got the update a few days ago. She is having it go into sleep and she is unable to wake the device. Only way to get it to turn back on is to hold the power+volume down to rest the device. She is very frustrated since it happens at least 2 times every hour. Is anyone else having this issue?

I had the same issue couple of times.
