Android 4.4.3 for Verizon HTC One M8??

Youtude only gives me 720p. Period.... 4.4.3
Sent from my HTC One (M8).

Well, if you're using an app named "Youtude" instead of YouTube that might be your problem. :p If you're talking about the most recent app of YouTube on 4.4.3 its already known as a possible issue as mentioned in the earlier posts (did you read them?). If you open the YouTube.com webpage and load a 1080p video (example embedded below) in desktop mode you can set the sprocket to 1080p and the the video will play at 1080p when you switch it to full screen.

I had updated the YouTube app to the version just released and it was only giving me 360p max! Uninstalled updates to revert to the 4.4.3 stock version (YouTube version 5.7.41), and now I can load your video link at 720p. Still no 1080p on anything, though.

Interesting. I wonder if if that is the app itself that is the problem, or if the 4.4.3 update causes the phone resolution to be mis-detected. The best way to test that out would be for someone still on 4.4.2 to go to Google Play Store make sure their YouTube app is the most up-to-date version, launch the YouTube app, either load up a known 1080p video from the site or search for a video and use "1080p" in the search entry. I'd also be interested to hear from people with non-HTC phones running 4.4.3 that support 1080p video playback and hear if their YouTube app is limiting them to 720p video as well.
If we can rule out the Youtube app version being an issue then we can point it out to HTC and Verizon, but if all 1080p capable phones have the issue with the most recent app version then we should bring it to YouTube's attention instead. (There was a new YouTube version put out on the Play Store as of yesterday that is supposed to fix bugs, but this doesn't look like one of them). In the meantime at least accessing the YouTube website (desktop version) in an m8 Internet browser still allows for 1080p selection. :-\

I do believe that it may possibly a bug that was introduced with 4.4.3. Reason being is because they, to my surprise, corrected a slight annoyance when lowering/raising the volume during a video. Before the update, anytime I changed the volume, the drop down menu to change the resolution, and the nav bar would pop up along with the volume bar. And at times it would just dim, and not completely go full screen. And after the update, that problem was solved. I uninstalled the YouTube updates and it did not fix the current problem at hand. Hopefully a future YouTube update can address this small problem, odds are that it possibly can, since a previous update enabled my 2013 Nexus 7 to watch videos at 1080p. Thanks for the heads up with using the browser though!

Your issues keep confounding me since I don't encounter them on my phone. With the most recent YouTube app version (5.10.1.5) I have no problem playing video that have the 720p option at 720p within the app. I suspect you checked, but did you make sure the video(s) you tried offered an option above 360p by either launching it in a browser window (on the m8), or on a computer and click the gear button from the browser page? Did you try clearing the YouTube app cache?

I've cleared both the YouTube and system cache, and was using the One Piece opening linked above, which I did verify had 1080p on a computer.

I think I konw his point,
In K442, M8 , you can choose 1080P movie.
In K443, M8 , you fail to choose 1080P movie, only to choose 720P.
It's nothing about YouTube version, my latest version is 5.10.1.5.
It should be ok to choose better quality 1080P on M8.
I have reported it to YouTube since it happened not only on M8 , Andorid device K443 up also hit the problem.
Hope YouTube can fix it asap.

Same, I hate when updates do stuff like this... I don't use Facebook and hate the idea of that app using resources on my phone when I have zero interest in it.

I really hate this, even more than I hate Facebook, which is saying something. I haven't upgraded yet, and hearing this makes me reluctant, even though I know there are security updates. Also annoying is that 1080p video in YouTube may also be disabled or somehow unavailable.

Verizon is supposed to have the best network, but we pay a high price for this "reliable network." Just sayin' :(

I never use Facebook, and I never find the Facebook for HTC Sense listed in my Running apps in App manager. It just un-force stops itself in the All area of App manager after some time, so its unclear if it is actually consuming any resources.

As far as the Youtube issue it only exists in the app. Its unclear if it was actually connected to the 4.4.3 update as opposed to a Youtube update. Morjoie since you haven't updated to 4.4.3 yet can you confirm that your Youtube app is updated to the most recent version, and then confirm if you're able to select 1080p in videos in the app (to determine if the Youtube app is the issue, or the Verizon update or 4.4.3 update is the issue)?
The YouTube issue only exists from within the YouTube app. People with the update are still able to play videos at 1080p from the Youtube website. As far as picture quality I feel the 720p the app lets us select is plenty good for viewing video on the phone, and if I didn't know that the selector in the app isn't offering us 1080p I wouldn't know that its not playing back in 1080p. The picture at 720p is perfect looking. There is no banding, no pixelation, no issues as far as I'm able to see. Its important to know when the source file is to blame for viewing issues, and when the player or connection is to blame for issues. The example video I embedded in a previous post on the thread is a good test since the source video is good quality.

I feel the update with worth it for the EPS and security fixes (4.4.3 and 4.4.4). Knowing what I do after the fact (as far as known issues) I would still update my phone if I hadn't already.

Android Optimizer: Thanks so much for your helpful post and suggestions. I checked my YouTube app and, as you suspected, it was not the most current version. I just updated YouTube, while still in the 4.4.2 OS, and then I loaded a 1080p video. It defaulted to 720p, but I was able to change the resolution to 1080p in the settings. Honestly, though, I couldn't tell the difference. The same video (an animated short) was absolutely stunning in both 720p and 1080p. Nice to be reminded, why, even with Verizon's annoyances, I absolutely love this phone! :)

Regarding Facebook, it's good to know that it probably isn't taking up much in the way of resources. And I guess I will go ahead and update and then clear out the data from Facebook and force close it periodically. I shouldn't have to do that, however. I should be able to opt out of whatever "deal" Verizon and Facebook made to hardwire Facebook into my phone. First world problem, I know...However, I did go to the Vz Wireless Community and express my displeasure with this "addition."

Yes, I have horrible battery life on 4.4.3 about 14hrs. Compared to 4.4.2 I would get a day and a half out of my battery!
