Android 5.0.1 - How do I remove weather widget from lock screen?

AC Question

I have seen the question asked several times in different forums, but the question is never answered. Either the thread goes in a different direction or the responses suggest going to settings that don't exist on the Samsung S4 with 5.0.1.

This is my wife's phone and she is very upset with the update. The biggest problem right now is she uses a photo of our granddaughter as the image for her lock screen, and the weather widget sits right across her face.

My wife has no use for the weather widget on her lock screen and just wants it gone.

How can this widget be removed?

Welcome to Android Central!

Go to settings, lock screen, additional information, and you should be able to disable it in there.

Go to settings, lock screen, additional information, and you should be able to disable it in there.

When I go into Settings, the menu is:

Settings > My Device > Lock Screen

From there the menu is:

Screen security
  • Screen lock

Swipe options
  • Lock screen widgets (clock or personal message options only)
  • Phone shortcut
  • Camera shortcut
  • Unlock effect (eg. Ripple effect)
  • Help text
  • Wake up in lock screen
  • Set wake-up command

There is no "Additional information" dialog in this menu.

The obvious section would be under "Lock screen widgets", but the only options there are:

General Settings
  • Clock or personal message [display clock or personal message on lock screen]
Clock

Personal message

Personal message options
  • Edit personal message

Well, we resolved the problem but didn't fix it. We got new phones.

Upgraded to the S6, and can now remove weather from the lock screen.

Love the new phone, but this doesn't help fix the problem for anyone else with Sprint's Samsung S4 on Android 5.0.1. Hopefully Sprint/Samsung will issue an update to add the removal option back into the settings.

Re: Android 5.0.1 - How do I remove weather widget from lock screen? (SOLVED)

Okay the problem can be solved as follow
settings > more (on top) > Application manager

slide to the "running apps" swipe from right to left till you see on top running

Go down to Weather open. "force stop" and "disable"

Restart phone.
