Android 5.0.2 OTA

I came to this thread ready to complain about not yet receiving the ota update on my nexus 7 fhd.

My nexus is my baby, and runs beautiful after hard use over a year.
So the census is to ignore the ota when it comes thru?

I definitely would ignore it if I were you. I have and am perfectly happy on kit Kat. I have the nexus 9 with LP and honestly Lp is nothing special. I just gotta a feeling if I upgrade my n7 to it I will only have problems.

I have a N7 2012 that was ruined by 5.0 and 5.0.2, very laggy and frequent freezes. None of the typical remedies would fix it. So bad, I purchased a N7 2013 and kept it on KitKat 4.4.4, refusing to take 5.0.2 update.

I recently discovered the Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit and decided I had nothing to lose so rolled my 2012 tablet back to 4.4.4 and now it's working great again. Once I saw how easy it was to do using this tool (I consider myself mid tech capable), I decided to go ahead and take 5.0.2 on my 2013 tablet, figuring I could roll it back to 4.4.4 if things didn't work out. Lo and behold, Lollipop is running great on my 2013 N7. Very smooth, no lags, nice animations and very stable (for the past 2 days at least).

2012 N7 only has 1GB RAM whereas 2013 has 2GB and I'm guessing this has something to do with the difficulty that the 2012 version has with Lollipop. I highly recommend using this tool if you want to downgrade to 4.4.4. Although it's got Root in the title. You're not really rooting the tablet, you're just unlocking the bootloader and flashing back to an earlier version of a factory image.

Except for the purchase of a new N7 your post could have been written by me. I am now back to 4.4.4 in my 2012 and happier. Used same method to go back. My question to you, since I need a new tablet, is how much of a difference do you now see between your 2012 and 2013. I would like to stick with Nexus if possible and like the 7 size. Thanks

I'd say it depends on what you use your tablet for. The only newer Nexus device is the Nexus 9 made by HTC. The reviews on that tablet haven't been all that impressive. But it does come with Lollipop pre-installed and being that it is newer, it might get an update or two more than the N7 2013 will get. It is 4:3 aspect ratio which most consider better for reading and web browsing versus 16:10 on the N7 which is considered better for media and gaming. It's also $399 although recently I have seen some discounts starting to be offered.

As far as N7 2nd Gen vs 1st Gen, the newer model is lighter and slimmer, has higher pixel density, has a better processor, has an extra GB of RAM, adds a rear facing camera, adds stereo speakers and adds Qi wireless charging. I do think the extra GB of RAM helps significantly with Lollipop and the speed and smoothness of the 2013 tablet vs. the 2012.

I was lucky as I purchased my 16 GB wifi model new for $135 toward the end of 2014 as Groupon was having a closeout sale on them. And at that time, 5.0 and 5.0.2 had crippled my 2012 model. Also, many tech reviewers toward the end of 2014 were still saying the N7 2013 was one of the best mid-size tablets on the market and best bang for the buck.

If you just use your tablet for stuff like web browsing, emails and reading, you're probably fine sticking with the 2012. But if the improvements that I mentioned above are important to you based on your use, I'd say go for it, especially if you can find one at a good price. Hope that helps!

Whether some people have issues or not the fact that my nexus 2013 still is at 4.4 over 3 months after 5.0 started pushing tells me the whole nexus receive updates quickly is a crock.
