Android 5.0.2

Any word on why 5.0.1 was suspended on the 2012 N7? Were there that many bug reports that quickly? 5.0.1 has actually been working well on my 2013 N7 and N5.

I'm guessing the issue was specific to the 2012 model. Otherwise we would have seen 5.0.1 suspended

Just flashed it on my 2012 N7. Wow... it is noticeably faster and smoother than the stock 5.0. They seem to have gotten rid of some Lollipop stuff, though. The app drawer now has a black background. No Google Now when swiping to the right, either. Interesting...

Are you sure you're running the Google Now Launcher, or just the original Launcher?

It is the launcher that automatically launched. It was Google Now Launcher for the Nexus 5, so I assumed it was the same for the Nexus 7, but now that you've asked me, it may not be. Isn't it weird, though? I thought Google Now Launcher was the default launcher for 5.0.x.

[EDIT] The app drawer doesn't show "Google Now Launcher." It does on my N5.

Google Now Launcher actually isn't the default launcher on the 2012 N7, but is on the N5. When my 2012 N7 updated to 5.0, I still had the option to switch from the original Launcher to Google Now Launcher, but this is because I had installed Google Now Launcher myself.

Ah, that explains it. I'm installing Nova anyway, but it is good to know that Lollipop offers different launchers as the default depending on the device. Thanks!

I hope i get it soon b/c i think that since im running KK but my apps are optimized for 5.0 my N7s running like crap. Ive done a factory reset as well but it only works well for a while then its up to the same old crap. I really want 5.0 USB MTP so i can use the N7 in the car.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm pretty happy with 5.0.2 myself. It sometimes lags, but it's so infrequent, I can easily tolerate it.

I'm still having an issue with my screen sometimes dimming slightly and then a few seconds later brightening again. As if the brightness were trying to auto correct or something.

I hope this fixes the N7 (2012). Mine is so slow you can go eat before Chrome opens.

5.0.2 came OTA to my N7 (2012) earlier this week.

Frankly, I'm not sure if I see any improvements at all (beyond regaining some stability in Chrome), or whether I'm simply willing it to be so.
A variation of Pavlov's Dog, when really, its more like Schrödinger's Cat.

I've installed it manually and to be honest my 2012 Nexus 7 works really fine now. Its worth the upgrade.
