I don't think we'll see Android 5.0 for a couple of years. If you look at previous versions, Froyo was 2.2, Gingerbread was 2.3. Ice Cream Sandwich has been worked on and talked about since last year. A jump to 5.0 assumes a major rework of the entire OS, which is not necessary/probable so soon after ICS.

Majot x.0 is not rework just major new features and changes, if you look on developer side Android is still pretty much the same just with new fancy things 4.x updates usally dont change UI much but include new features and ton of new APIs, so it's still quite big updates

What does the iOS news have to do with the next android release. Does it need to be a back forth thing?

iOS and Android effect each other due competition, if iOS do something better Android users whats it too and vice versa and it's usally being included in some way or another over time. Theu iOS 6 is not even relesed and does not mostly application features.

That could ruin the experience for fullscreen games.

They got Google Talk which is XMPP on gmail.com address (so you use gmail address in XMPP network) with some non-standard features. You might not be aware but XMPP is decentralized IM protocol standard work in similar principles as email. Google Talk users can talk to anyone inside XMPP external network same as you can email people outside Gmail. Facebook and i susppect even iOS Messager is also services on XMPP but does not allow for external communication. Google Talk it's currently the biggest XMMP network. If you want to seek new features on that i recommand to look on XMMP Protocol Extentions and see what is not implemented in Google Talk yet

Ofcorse it's just standard that you need to follow in external communication, in internal Google can implement there own stuff which only there clients support it

I would not expect overhaul. Just half year ago they made one for phones by bringing Honeycomb revolutions in to it.

Now everyone will want jelly bean. This should be a nexus exclusive for a while. Like android 2.3.7 only because most haven't had a taste of ice cream.

Hopefully with the jelly bean update they work on some of the apps in Android.they should combine the Google + messenger with , three it's really no point to have to different apps. Other apps that they should just merge together it's listen and Google music, that way your music and podcast are in one place.

I like having my podcasts and music separate.

But I totally agree in their messaging products.
