Hey everyone,

I was hoping somebody with hands on experience with the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX might be able to help me out. I really want an android auto capable receiver but i am concerned about utilizing my music collection.

Does anyone know if which if any of the following use cases are possible?
  1. Use google maps in navigation mode and listen to iPod classic using aux
  2. Use google maps in navigation mode and listen to iPod classic over Bluetooth, via an adapter
  3. Use google maps in navigation mode and listen to iPod classic using the standard iPod connector
  4. Use google maps in navigation mode and listen to music from the SD card

To answer a few questions that may come up:
- my music collection over 2TB and i dont want to rely on google music
- i dont like any streaming services, except siriusXM
- yes i am interested in other workarounds, all i want is nav and MY collection of music accessible at the same tim

I can't answer directly about the iPods, but it seems likely. I can listen to any input on my 4100 and have Navigation up and running. I have tested with an SD card and USB stick (as well as SiriusXM, FM radio, and CD).

My workaround: I use Subsonic and DSUB to load music on my phone (it streams or saves locally over the internet). I can access all of my collection using Android Auto (assuming a decent internet connection).

I can speak to 3 and 4 from experience. I have a 4100nex.

I have an old school ipod classic. It's one of the original ones that has a hard drive. I quit using it because anytime Android Auto interrupts the audio (speaking directions, incoming call, me asking Google a question), the song I was listening to would start over. In some cases, the album that contained the song would start over. I couldn't stand it. I tried my daughter's ipod touch with a flash drive and it worked correctly. If your ipod classic is one with a hardrive, you might want to look into that. On an older Kenwood unit, I once used a 1 TB flash drive. It worked but the only problem was when I first started the car, it took a long time to read the whole library. That was atleast 5 or 6 years ago. Technology obviously is better now. That might be an option to get all of your music on one device.

Because of the issue I was having with my ipod classic, I use an SD card. I can tell you that AA and navigation work flawlessly with the SD card. The audio quality is better then using googe play music over AA and is on par with an ipod through an integration cable.

Asauers11, I don't have any problems if I am listening to my SD card and using navigation. I used to have problems similar to the one you mentioned when I was using a samsung based ROM. I am now using a CM Rom and AA works flawlessly.
