Android Central Question

My cable connection between my phone and 2017 Honda CRV to use Android Auto has stopped working. The USB plug was replaced about a month ago by the dealership. Android Auto has been working fine until yesterday. The USB port is still working in that it is providing a charge to my phone but the Android Auto will not load in the car. It opens and works on the phone. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have this problem too in a 2017 civic. Was working fine on my LG G3 for 4 months. There were a few days here and there that it didn't connect. My phone software updated and it worked again. All of a sudden a few days ago it stopped working. I tried all the recommended troubleshooting, uninstall the app, reinstall, unpair, new cable, restart honda infotainment. Had no success so I took it into the dealer who plugged in his Samsung galaxy 8 and it immediately worked. He thinks my phone is too old or has something preventing the connection. The app runs fine on my phone and the car will charge my phone through the cable but no displaying or connecting to the screen. Very frustrating.

Ok I finally figured out what the problem was. Bluetooth was interfering with the android auto connection. The first time my phone lost connection to the honda display screen was after I had paired it to my friend's Bluetooth portable speaker. The second time my phone stopped, I received a phone call while driving. It instantly stopped auto android, closed the program on the screen, and said my phone was no longer connected through the usb. I tried all the usual uninstalling and repairing and toggling Bluetooth on and off. But what finally worked was going under developer options, networking, and changing "set usb configuration" to MTP media transfer protocol. For some reason when my Bluetooth kicks in, it changes my usb configuration to "charging only." this is why when plugged into my car nothing connects on the screen but the car will still charge my phone. I read about this MTP setting somewhere online but forget where now. Hope this can help someone else.

@Denny I just picked up a 2018 CRV and it kind of works like that. If you want usb/ bluetooth to work you have to exit android auto. It is a pain as the system is not that intuitive, but it works a lot better then the original AA release on the 2017 model.

I've got this problem on my brand new 2018 Honda CRV. I downloaded Android Auto to my phone, a Samsung Galaxy S6, but Android Auto isn't showing up on the car's screen, only on the phone. So it's not connecting to the car. Anyone experienced this and gotten an answer?

Yep. Remove cable from port in car and phone. Plug back in to car. Then plug in to phone.

If that doesn't work change connection type to charge only or transfer files and then back again.

okay so none of the suggestions worked for my 2018 Honda CRV when connecting Android auto so what I did may work for someone else cuz I did something different. Go to the settings option on your Honda screen then click the smartphone option and you will see two options Apple carplay and Android auto. Click Android auto and then you will see your phone listed and it may say that it's disabled you need to click it and enable it then it's going to tell you to unplug and plug back in the USB. You should now see the Android auto option on your home screen.

I have a 2018 Honda CRV and a Samsung s7. My android auto worked fine for 7 months. Then it would only connect via bluetooth. I put the screen on the car back to Factory Settings and it fixed the problem!! Works perfectly again!

Go to setting , smartphone. I found my device was disable. Reenable and unplug / replug and back in action

Hey there! I'm about to try this as I'm having the same exact problem. Where will i find the developer options from my home screen? I'm sorry I'm not the best at this and need my hand held a little, haha.

This solution worked for me. Thank you!

After trying all of the suggestions to get my Galaxy7s connected to my 2018 CRV I ended up plugging in the original Samsung charging cable and was able to get it connected. I had one to begin with and it frayed so I just purchased a generic charging cable to replace it and didn't think it mattered, well it does. Hopefully that helps someone else.

That's great you got it working. And yes, Android Auto is very particular with which cables it works with. The higher the quality, the better.

My problem isn’t that Android Auto doesn’t work but that the touchscreen interface doesn’t.

I can navigate by saying "OK Google. Navigate to xxx" or by entering the address into the phone ahead of time but I can’t scroll the map or tap a different route option.

The touchscreen works for other things (radio, answering calls, etc) just not the navigation and the Honda techs have no clue.
