So what was happening with my issue, was that the phone will stay connected to bluetooth even when plugged in and in android auto mode... something I never had an issue with with my Galaxy S8+, bluetooth would just automatically disconnect from my car when android auto was initialized with that phone.

I had some issues early on with my Pixel 2 XL, but then I switched to a genuine Google cable and had no issues since. So far I haven't had any issues with my Pixel 3 XL.

Which cable did you purchase? Did you get it from the Google store? The only cables that I see is a c to c and a c to an a female. I need a c to a male. The cable that I'm using worked with my pixel just fine, but I'm willing to try a new cable because I'm out of ideas.

The cable wasn't the issue. It's a direct from Google USB A to C and as I posted I had no issues with the Pixel 2. This issue has been resolved for me.

So, after a few days of driving and trying AA with the P3XL in different vehicles I have run across a few issues:

1) 2014 Cadillac V-Sport Premium equipped with Cue: AA worked fine with a 6P and a P2XL. With the P3XL, it shows "charging slowly" whenever connected via USB for AA. Also, the Assistant in inconsistent; most of the time it does not show on the Cue display. Same cable, USB port as used with the other phones.

2) 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T equipped with a Pioneer AVH-3300NEX: AA worked fine with a P2XL. With the P3XL, the battery indicator on phone flashes between "charging" and not; and unable to make a USB connection to set up AA. This was an issue with the P2XL prior to Pioneer releasing 8.35 firmware update. Same cable, USB port as used with other phones.

These issues are a dealbreaker for me. I rely on my phone for business throughout the day, and on my commute to and from work using AA & GA for navigation, texts and home automation. Further, the drive home is the time I need the phone to recharge; not lose its charge!

At this point I am considering a return prior to the 15 day window expiring. It is a damn shame, as I love the display and the overall look & feel of the P3XL. However, at the end of the day I need a phone that "just works." So, I may just have to go back to the rock solid P2XL and revisit the P3XL next year.

^^^ wow that sucks, I am dependent on charging my phone as well while commuting for 2 hours a day and use AA functions for Nav and voice texting. Really hope they resolve the issues, don’t get mine until next week so won’t know until then if it works fine with my 2016 Golf

thanks for heads up...wow this device sadly is stacking up to have a ton of issues, first time i ever preordered a device or got one on launch...i expected some minor things but getting worried now.

Thanks. I ordered the cable. I don't think that is the issue as my pixel worked fine. But I'm willing to try anything at this point.

If the cable doesn't solve it I have to return the phone. AA is the most important feature on the phone for me.

I'm with you on my doubts about their official cable fixing the issue. Further, I see no specs on the cable; is it USB 2.0? 3.0? The current cables I am using are 3.0.

EDIT: I found their specs at the bottom of the page:
"¹Built to USB 2.0 specifications: up to 480 Mbps data transfer speed; power output up to 3 Amps. Charge rate will vary depending on the capabilities of the power source and the device."

The tech side of me says that can't be!

I also agree that AA is the most important feature; I too will be returning and going back to my trusty P2XL if this is not resolved in the next few days.

My aa was quirky before the latest Android auto update in play store. Since that came out it has been flawless for me. Version 3.7.584044

So is mine, and I have had nothing but trouble getting my 3XL to connect. To be clear, it's not that it *never* connects, but rather that it usually doesn't and then, out of nowhere, it will connect sometimes 10 minutes after being plugged in.

2XL worked flawlessly.

I suspect that it might indeed be the cable or, more specifically, something about either the cable's USB-C connector or the 3XL's connector that causes them to not make a reliable, solid, connection.

I'll try another cable when I leave for home in a bit.

If you are connecting to a car, ain't that by Bluetooth ?

I don't know about other cars/headunits, but my 2017 VW Passat (and my wife's Jetta)can connect two ways:

Bluetooth, in which case I can make and receive telephone calls and also listen to music stored on my phone (in VW's parlance, use the phone "as a media (media storage?) device"

Or, connected via USB cable in which case I can display navigation maps/directions (Google Maps or Waze) on the car's in-dash display, interact with WhatsApp and other message services, see the current local weather, and a bunch of other stuff. Plus make and receive phone calls, of course.

I had one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU6381484 in my bag of tricks (I'm an IT professional with a very large bag of tricks...) which I tried on the ride home last night.

It did connect much more reliably - about 5-8 seconds after plugging in which is still much slower than the 2XL was.

Also, I think this was mentioned somewhere, I have the problem where my audio volume control gets hijacked and put into "Voice Oper." mode. It's a random thing and almost seems like the 3XL "hears" something and thinks I want its attention; my current media volume drops down a notch or two and any attempt to change it just raises or lowers the Voice Oper. volume setting. The only way to adjust my media (radio, SiriusXM, SDCard music) volume at that point is to pull the cable from the 3XL.

Pretty darned annoying, but I assume a software update will eventually fix it.
