Android Central Article on In-screen finger print sensors

That was mentioned in the "Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well" thread.

I'm not sure what that would add to cost or complications. Certainly a good idea.

Oh, ok. They could probably kill off the charging gimmick on the back and save some money.

I would be able to unlock my phone and not have to twist my thumb around uncomfortably to reach the fps

For mine, the fingerprint scanner has been so unreliable as to be basically useless. For those who don't have any issues I'm happy for you but the fact is not all of us have a working scanner.
My S10 is an amazing phone but for this. I am regretting not ordering the S10e...

Did you check the "Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well" thread?

Yes I did. It worked slightly better for a day then back to being slow, then just unreliable. I've just deleted my fingerprints and rescanned for the umpteenth time.
I'm sure Samsung will keep updating to improve, but I still prefer a traditional rear fingerprint scanner

This is a first generation FPS, we all knew that going in. Just like the folding phone coming, that will be a first generation, it might not work 100%. The note and S series all sucked at things in the beginning, and they all improved each version after that.

It's pretty simple now, it either works or it doesn't for you, you can use another way to unlock or you can still return it. I found out today that the FPS doesn't work very good in Dusty conditions, I'll work around it. I remember when they put the FPS in the back and everyone complained, now a lot are wanting it on the back now. I prefer the front

I value security vs speed of light performance. Slick and quick is less important. Both hardware and software enhancements will prove the performance and security. It may take a couple of iterations of Galaxy devices.

I like the front FPS always have easier to open while on desk or in dock. But I don't mind small bezels for speakers more secure facial scanners or Iris.

But I have a watch now using smart lock so it is even less of an issue. I personally think Samsung just wanted to beat Apple to under glass FPS.

People are being so over dramatic. The tech has to mature. The only way for that to happen is to put it out there, update the software as they figure out the drawbacks, and perfect it in future generations. It happened with pretty much every unlocking tech since the beginning of the smartphone. You can't get the results you need in a lab. You have to put it out there. What short memories people have, just a year ago Apple fans were pitching fits because Face ID was so finicky, especially in dark rooms. People were longing for the front button Touch ID, and returning their X to get the 8 plus. Very few are complaining now.

If people can't deal with that, return the phone. Either way, this is how it's going to play out.

I await with anticipation his viewpoints on foldable phones when he finds out the compromises (and I guarantee there will be compromises).

The FPS on the 10 and 10+ is horrible. Seems not very well thought out. Samsung tried to make something unique and it failed. Well, Qualcomm failed, really.

Its not a failure though. It is working great for a lot of people. Myself included. I'm not doubting you may be having issues. But there are many many more who have no issues.

You have to remember the users on here are a small sample of the actual users of the device also. I personally know a lot of people who got the s10 in one form or another. And none have issues either.

Using the method to scan both thumbs as one fingerprint works best for me. The method to scan one thumb as multiple fingerprints didn't improve anything for me.

Short of making a large sensor that takes input from a larger area I don't see it happening
This is possible. There was an article last year about how the bottom third of the screen can be used to scan for fingerprint

I am currently using a Huawei(oohh theres a dirty word) mate 10 pro. And I have to say the rear finger print sensor is sensational. Its well placed and ultra fast. considering I am always on the go and have phone in pocket I always have it unlocked before it is out of my pocket. I do understand would be handy in the front of the screen for those who have it on the desk. But for me Def on the back is the way to go.
For the record wife has the mate 20 pro and is not a fan of the inscreen sensor. Again personal choice.
Rear sensor is way fast than her front sensor. We have sat there and tested.
Hopeing there will always be a phone out the with the rear option.

I had the S8+ for 18 months and the sensor on the back worked about 60% of the time. Have only had the S10 a few days and the only time it hasn't worked is when I put my finger in the wrong place.

I agree with this. The only time the Fps does not work is when I make a mistake

Well I forgot my watch today, so it looks like I will be using the FPS more today. I will check in at the end of the day and see if my point of view has changed...HAHAH :D
