Hey Android Central! I'm posting, hoping to win a Droid X from you guys.
In my opinion, the Droid X is the hottest phone of the year for a few reasons. First, it is on arguably the most reliable (and in some respects, "best") network in North America, Verizon Wireless. Additionally, it's one of the first phones to come with a 4.3" display, one that is large and provides a really great experience for multimedia, including pictures & video (and the extra screen space really helps when using the keyboard, too), and while it can be polarizing for some (in that it's either too big or so big that it makes it more awesome), it definitely has drawn a lot of attention to the phone. They say that all attention is good attention. I think in the Droid X's case, this is true.
Other reasons include a 1Ghz OMAP 3630-1000 processor which seems so far to benchmark much faster than the 1Ghz Snapdragon processor found in many other Android phones like the Evo and the Incredible.
Other reasons make this phone really hot, including a promised "late summer" release of 2.2 FroYo for the phone, a pretty darn good camera by most assessments, an HDMI out port which seems to be reasonably useful and nice to have, as well as some really great premium accessories like the multimedia dock and the car dock, among others.
But perhaps what makes the Droid X most attractive and hot and the must-have phone of the year is the marketing and hype built by VZW/Motorola for this phone. The Droid lineage has seen a lot of success, first with the Eris/Motorola Droid (mostly due to the Motorola Droid), then the Incredible and now the Droid X. This line of phones has garnered a certain reputation that seems to draw customers in who want the best smartphone experience on Verizon Wireless. The Droid line of phones has been the driving force behind Android's rapid growth over the last 7+ months and one has to wonder where Android would be without the Droids and the marketing that VZW & Motorola so heavily pushed and continue to push. The Droid has caused enough excitement to convert many iPhone users even. With that kind of presence, it's fair to say any time a new Droid launches, there's sure to be lots of hype and excitement and strong sales usually accompany that.
