Wow...don't know, man. Hopefully somebody else will chime in to Help you. Mine went flawless.

Thanks,

Is there something I need to do to the phone before installing Motoroot? That's the whole problem, the instructions on these sites are not COMPLETE. They leave certain things out and take for granted that the reader already knows them. Impactor will not find my phone no matter what I do, and I'm not even sure I'm using it right as there are NO instructions for its use anywhere that I can find. The best I get is "send xyz command to your phone". Well, exactly how do I do that?

And my phone is no longer charging off my USB ports either, though it will charge off the wall charger still. Maybe I got a defective one....

Figured out that I needed to download and install "Motorola Device Manager". I get to the point where you run RockMyMoto from the command line and I get "Permission Denied" error. Now what?

EDIT:LOL, my dumb ***, I missed a letter in the command line.

No, that is not unusual. It's pretty common for USB ports to not provide enough power to charge the phone. Sometimes you have some low power ports and some high power ones. It depends on the computer.

Actually it was a symptom and lead me to the ultimate solution. I checked Device Manager again and this time there was a device in the "Other devices" category: ADB!!! So, I deleted that and figured out that I had to download "Motorola Device Manager". Installing that cleared up the ADB driver problem that had not shown up in Device Manager earlier. NONE of this was in any of the instructions. I got one letter wrong in the CMD instructions and that's why I got the permission error. I finally got all three stages done and I believe I am rooted now.

Awesome. Download an app called Root Checker...it'll let you know whether you are or not.

Thanks,
Chief

I did, and I'm rooted. Got write protection disabled. Figured out that SlapMyMoto will not work if you reinstall and enable SuperSu (MotoWPNomo uninstalls it). You will get an error saying that SlapMyMoto is not compatible with rooted devices. Once I unchecked the box in SuperSu it allowed SlapMyMoto to proceed.

Attempted to take the 4.4 update. Looks like I'm in a perpetual reboot loop now.... Great.

You know you're gonna lose root if you update to KK, don't you?

Thanks,
Chief

The jcase thread was supposed to be a way to maintain root on KK. That's the entire reason I was attempting this. About half of what needed to be done to make it work was not included in the instructions. I finally got through all his instructions (after discovering all the other steps that needed to be done) and attempted the KK update. Now the phone is in a perpetual boot loop, and I can't figure out how to get it into the powered-off recovery mode to do an FDR.

As I understand it, there is a method...if you are rooted on 4.2, you can root once you've upgrade to 4.4. I haven't tried it yet, but I've read about it on xda.

Yea, I can understand that. I actually live out in the country also. My only access to broadband internet is through Verizon or Satellite internet. No cable, or FIOS, or anything like that... I was ecstatic when LTE came out here.

I feel your pain, I live out in the sticks too, have to get home internet from a satalite ISP. Verizon, in the total brilliance, put their cell tower at the foot of the hill, and I live on the other side, so I can't even get 4G at my house, which I would prefer since it would be FASTER and CHEAPER than what I have to pay for satellite!

I just got my maxx yesterday..... ugh, it went through several updates while in the store so i have no idea what was loaded before kk4.4.... is it worth resetting to factory setting? will the prior 4.? be reinstalled, or am i totally screwed until there is another hack ;-(

While I'm no expert, my understanding is that if your Maxx has been updated to Kit Kat and it was never rooted when it had Jelly Bean then there is no current solution which will allow you to obtain root. What's worse is that based on the commentary in the following thread many people believe that there will never be a root solution for a Maxx with Kit Kat that wasn't rooted when it had Jelly Bean. Here's a link to the thread - click here

Additionally, it's my understanding that a Factory Reset will not solve your problem. Once a Maxx has been upgraded to Kit Kat there's no going back to Jelly Bean.
