Android KitKat 4.4 breaks the Entitlement Check hack

Post 4.4 OTA ----> Droid Maxx Entitlement Hack is BACK!!

First of all Kudos go to Topsnake.. I just stumbled across his post and am giving you a redirect ...

Go Here :

[MOD][ROOT]Native Tether for Kit Kat 19.5.3 - xda-developers

And follow his instructions carefully.

I am rooted and on 4.4 KitKat with droid Maxx. Original entitlement hack was working great with 4.2. Along came 4.4 so I rooted via xda-developers - View Single Post - [4.4 ROOT] SlapMyMoto 1.0 (Requires you to be on 4.2.2)
Upgraded to 4.4, regained root, and tried the entitlement hack and totally crapped my pants when I tried to do entitlement hack and found it was broke. So I browsed site after site.. just KNOWING someone had found SOMETHING .. I gotta have my WIFI hotspot!!! And Lo and behold, I found this little gem. All is well once again in Droid Land.

The second link here isn't at all clear. What exactly do I need to do if I am on 4.2.2 on a brand new MAXX? He talks about MotoWPNoMo and RockMyMoto. What are those for? Is that to get a non-MAXX phone back to 4.2.2 or do I still need to do something with them on my phone?

The post by him is very confusing.

motowpnomo permantly disables write protection so you can write to the system rockmymoto roots the phone.

I used topsnakes method and it works great but if you want something even easier use xposed there is a module that disables the entitlement check without having to manually change any system apps. Of course you have to have exposed installed and be rooted. This only works on 4.4 the old entitlement hack of change the 1 to a 0 doesn't work on 4.4 anymore.

So I have to go through the steps in MotoWPNoMo and RockMyMoto and then upgrade to KitKatt, and I should retain root, correct, or will I have to do something after the KitKatt upgrade to re-establish root?

I just noticed the update I'm getting nagged about is 12.15.15. I believe I should be safe to do that one and then establish root?

Well, cydia impactor as linked in the article doesn't work for me. I cannot connect to my MAXX. I found the IP address of my phone on my WiFi network, but all I get are errors. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but as there are no instructions on how to do this, it's very frustrating for someone who has not used this software before. Does anyone have a step by step? I tried connecting via the USB cable also and got a "No device found" error.

Also, there is conflicting information on the several sites linked. Some say that you can still get OTA system updates, others say you cannot. Well, which is it?

Oh man. I wish I had never updated to KitKat. Has there been an advancement or new break thru lately? Im hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I just want to use foxfi again or another free hotspot app. I'm willing to root or whatever I can find step by step. I've been searching the forums and I think I could figure it out with instructions.I accidentally upgraded to KitKat after having my ultra for only 3 days. Verizon wouldn't help me roll back to jellybean or let me exchange my phone (without paying a restock fee) I agreed to pay the fee and switch for another ultra still running jellybean but the vzw rep said it would be a waste of money because vzw is going to push the update and I eventually won't have an option. So I'm stuck paying my $39 hotspot fee when I was getting the use of my hotspot free on my DNA. I power two TV streaming media boxes, two tablets and my laptop. My average monthly GB usage is around 600gb. I have a 4 and 5 yr old who stream Netflix cartoons to their rooms all day. And never a glitch. So for $30 I shouldn't complain...however it really bothers me that Verizon made me upgrade and now an app I paid for is useless.

Verizon lied to you...if the phone comes with 4.2 or 4.3, you do not have to update to 4.4. If you're willing to pay the restocking fee, do it.

Get the phone, root it, download Titanium Backup, freeze MotorolaOTA and Update 1.0 and then you won't hey the nagging notifications. I just got my Maxx a week ago and that's what I did.

Thanks,
Chief

Exactly how do you root it, though? I've been running into one incomplete instruction set after another. There appears to be no complete step-by-step instructions for obtaining root on 4.2.2

ELook for the thread "Root and FREE wifi tethering for DROID MAXX"...there is a link in there to the XDA site...they give you instructions and there is a YouTube video. It's very simple...takes less than 5 minutes.

Thanks,
Chief

Yep, I've tried that. Impactor will not find my phone. Those instructions assume the user knows how all of this works, and so they are very much incomplete. As a result, I cannot get root on my 4.2.2 phone.

Dude, all you have to do is download two apk's, install them and run them. Easy stuff.

Thanks,
Chief

I wish it was. I have the Android APK installed. All it does is flash a brief CMD window. I can't even see what it says before it closes. Now what? What other APK? Motoroot on my phone? My phone refuses to install it.... Now what?

This is what I get (and yes I checked the warning in the 3rd screen shot and clicked on Install):
