Android Messages vs. Textra?

What makes Textra so compelling? I've never used anything but stock (and I don't believe RCS works on anything but stock, but I'm open to correction on this point) or Google Messenger.

Honestly, the customization keeps me coming back. You can customize the icon colour, the background of your messages, the bubble and bubble colour, text notifications for different contacts... And for only a dollar more, you get everything. It's so amazing.

... LOOL I sound like a sales rep.

I just can't believe that after all these years, you can't just swipe ONCE to delete in Textra. It's a tedious and mostly unintuitive process (no, Textra, I don't want to keep the temporary codes from 2-factor auths or promos from carriers, thank you very much... ).

Haha, yes, you do!

It sounds cool, but I'm not really interested in customization in messaging apps. As long as I can reliably send and receive messages, I'm good!

Textra.
While I like the clean look of Android Messages there are zero options. Being able to delay sending and schedule messages are a huge part of it. It has a dark mode. Plus I have never had any issues with it messing up with messaging, I downloaded AM last week to try it again, every text I received got sent to all of my work contacts. That was fun. although I prefer whatsapp over all text.

When it does what it's meant to, that's all that matters sometimes!! :)

That sounds like a cool feature, but I can't conceive of a situation where I'd want to use it. When I decide to send a message, it's usually related to something I want to communicate right away. What are the reasons you (or anyone else) would want to delay/schedule a message?

I prefer WhatsApp, too, but only 3 of my contacts (my wife, our daughter, and a friend from church) use it.

The few times I used it was when I wanted to remind someone of something later that day but didn't want to have to set a reminder to remind them. ;)

In my family its a game to say happy birthday right at midnight and be the first to do so. I used to stay up to beat everyone. Now I schedule the message and go to sleep lol. Since coming back to Android Ive yet to be beaten.

Other scenarios is reminding my wife or oldest of an appointment they have.

I feel like I'd use scheduled texts for work-related issues or for my habitual "good morning" messages. :)

Cheater! LOL

I like the second use-case and could see myself doing the same. Thanks for the suggestions!

Textra all the way! As soon as I get a new phone or factory reset, it is my second installed app. Nova Launcher being the first. Haven't used AM lately, but Textra meets all my needs.

Textra is more reliable than my stock texting app and I usually try to use stock as much as possible.

Maybe check out Pulse also. I like it.
This. I have been a Google Messenger/Android Messages since it's conception. I have always used Mighty Text to get texting abilities from my computer and tablet, but there always seemed to be issues and just not being as seamless as the iMessage experience.

That being said, Pulse gives me the experience of iMessage on Android. I'm a week into it, but i really see myself paying for the full subscription. The app is free as a stand-alone text app, but have to pay for the text from any device feature. Strongly suggest everyone checking it out.

I use Pulse also and like it. I've used Textra before (paid) and it's ok, but a "heavy" app. Pulse is much lighter, for me anyway.
