So, what is everyone's opinion on these two popular texting apps? Textra vs. Android messenger. I swear that Android messaging sends out pictures and video faster than textra. Also when texting in Android messaging, I also swear that voice typing work smoother. What does everyone else think?

Android messenger has too few customization options for me. I hate the white interface especially since I'm using black themes. It's just off.

I usually jump around between Textra and Yaata.

I forgot about it yaata again. I'll have to look into that again.

Textra has been my go to for years now. No matter what I try, I always come back to it. It's fast, bug free, customizable, and just plain works really well.

That's true. Maybe I'm just being weird but I thought it took a little longer to send out a picture message than Android messenger.

I had been using the Samsung massaging app until a week ago when I tried Textra. Then I tried Yaata and the Android Messaging app. Yaata has a lot of customizations too, but I just like Textra better. Google's app is just too plain, plus it can't flash the notification LED on the S8 (of course, neither can Samsung's own app, for that matter), so Textra for me it is.

I haven't had a problem with textra sending pics, but I've definitely been having issues with videos. Even if I shorten the video to 15 seconds or less still won't go through. I have to use the stock messaging app for sending videos.

Yes. And I swear to God picture sent slow in text rather than an Android messaging. I'm still giving Android messaging a chance.

Can someone on this thread explain to me if there is a way to change the settings in Textra so that you don't have to do three things to delete a text? 1)swipe right to show garbage can, 2)tap on can to open lid, 3) tap again to confirm deletion.

With all of the text notifications I get for school-related stuff for my kids, package delivery from Amazon and others, and oh yeah plain old texting with people, this three-step process has always been a deal-breaker for me. With all of the customization that Textra has, why you can't change this I dunno.

Android Messages - swipe right or left and the sucker is archived.

I just hold down the conversation or text I want to delete and then hit the trashcan at the top. You still have to tap the can twice though.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I had forgotten the Android Auto issue - which is Textra doesn't work on AA:

Total and complete deal breaker for me. I downloaded Telegram but none of my contacts showed in that app....soooo, back to Android Messages.

I use Textra and AA every day. It works great. On the phone, I use the Textra app. In the car, AA simply shows them as text messages--you don't see the Textra app itself on the screen in the car. But messages, contacts, etc are perfectly synced between Textra on the phone and AA in the car. It works beautifully--I can't imagine how this would be better.

Well, I guess I'll install it again and give it a shot then...

I'm not a heavy texter, so I don't care about a lot of the features that others care about. But the ability to schedule texts was what got me to actually pay for Textra. I've done mininmal customizing, but being able to set a text when I remember about something while insuring that it goies out at a reasonable time is gold for me.

You need hangouts installed there is an issue with how AA handles texts. I had hangouts disabled and it would not work correctly with Textra. I don't use hangouts it just sits there. There is an option in Textra to integrate with AA

I'm trying the app yaata out again. And has all the features plus super super customizable.

I like the simplicity and stock feel of Android Messages. I also might be the only one. I have used apps like Textra and Pulse SMS in the past, but I always come right back to Android Messages for some reason.
