Android OS/Android System using battery on standby

I went to bed with around 95% battery, when I woke up, my Note 8 was around 78%. In my battery usage it shows that Android OS used 11% and Android System used 5%. Has anybody else ran into this issue? The first few days I did not see this drain.

The OS will show up as the most used if the device is left alone for a while. However, 20% over 8-10 hours is quite excessive. I would try rebooting and charging your device to see if this repeats.

Same thing happened to me Monday night after 3 nights of only losing 3% overnight - dropped from 100% to 78% and the majority was Android OS and Android System. Rebooted the phone, recharged and it hasn't happened again - also cleared my cache last night after finally figuring out how to get into Recovery Mode!

Luckily the problem just resolved itself, must have been an app running in the background. I did however restart, turn off some app permissions and put some apps to sleep.

Android OS using 11% (that's 11% of the total power used, not 11% of the total battery power) and Android System using 5% is lower than normal. Tap the graph to get to the second graph and look at the bottom for the mobile signal. If it's not solid green, that's also costing you battery (and you're on the wrong carrier - you select the carrier by signal strength where you usually are - home and school or home and work).

Wow... it happened to me AGAIN, on Monday night 9/25 after NOT happening since the reboot on Tuesday morning 9/19!!! Weird... I just setup Auto-Restart for 11:00PM on Monday evenings (not that I should have to) but let's see if that stops this "Battery Gremlin"?

Did you ever fix your issue? My Note 8 suddenly has terrible idle battery drain (with Android OS and System being the top of it). I used to lose less than 4% a night unplugged. Not sure what happened. Did a full on hard reset and cleared the cache, and didn't even download all my apps. I can't figure it out!

Nope, still does it every now and then - I have absolutely no explanation yet! I have tried a full charge every night before I go to bed, followed by "Close All" apps and an "Optimize", followed by a reboot then put it on the night stand. Four or five nights fine then a of night of 73% ??? I even had 3 nights in a row of 73% but I had a couple of calendar reminders go off silently which had the LED blinking all night on two of those. Driving me crazy but I don't want to do a Factory Reset!

It's driving me crazy, too! Don't bother with a factory reset-- it hasn't fixed my issue. There's a new firmware update coming I heard (AQI7), so I am really hoping maybe that will resolve it. I just hope there's nothing defective about my device.

Have you checked what apps are using your battery? Do you have a lot of drain during the day he. Not using your phone? My Note 8 is a battery miser on standby.

I am always amazed how little battery is used when I am not using the phone. My old Note 4 would always have noticeable battery drain on standby.

It's not the phone it's a roque app, look back at what you installed just before it started happening, had same problem in the past, Facebook's messenger used to be infamous for this

Maybe try wakelock detector or greenify.

Doesn't Android N force hibernate the OS when not in use?

I installed GSAM previously to see what apps are causing wakelock, but even after giving permissions using ADB, it won't show it. Does Wakelock detector work with the Note 8? I don't want to root my phone as I use Samsung Pay and would prefer to keep the warranty in tact.

I'm not sure what app would be causing it. I never install Facebook (app or messenger) on my phones. I didn't add any new apps before the problem started. And I even installed less apps when I factory reset my phone.

In the built-in battery stats page, I don't see any apps out of the ordinary. It's just Android OS and Android System taking up most of it. I have noticed that Beaming Service and Bixby use Android System a lot so I had them disabled before I factory reset my phone, and it did not help. I even turned location services off one night and the idle drain persisted.

I get more battery drain during the day, too. I think the idle drain has affected my SOT on as well.

I wish Nougat allowed for more detailed battery stats. Google should really show what makes up the Android System use -- it's making me crazy!

My suggestion would be to get in the habit of tapping the recent apps button and then close all, especially before going to bed since that's when you're seeing some battery drain. I've had a dramatic increase in battery life in doing this on a regular basis when it never made a noticeable difference on my N4. I had over 7 and half hours SOT yesterday while on WiFi all day at home and had 38% battery left when I plugged in to charge before going to bed.

On a side note, Gsam has an update today that is supposed to fix the ADB issue.

Read my Post #9 - it's been happening to me but just occasionally and I have been doing what you say EVERY night before bed since it started! Still happens! Weird...
