Android P Public Beta -- Live!

First odd bug today. No videos would play. At all. I have a bandwidth monitor so I can see it is streaming the video but nothing is playing. It is just frozen.

I reboot and all that but it still keeps happening (on all video apps). I disconnect Bluetooth and try ... It plays fine. I get back on BT.. freezing.

I unpair my BT headset and re-pair it. Everything is back to normal now.

Who's getting better battery life?
Near as I can tell, there's been a decent reduction in the active drain... Before I bumped to P, I was running in the high teens... 18%/h or so, which was quite high compared to earlier in the year, back by launch. Granted, there are too many factors in play, of course. Things like play services, etc.. all run sightly different between O and P.

But I'm back down at 14% or so, using mostly the same apps and daily usage patterns. Which is a huge difference.

Idle, there's not much of a difference, it's about the same. But that's just a matter of the apps that are running in the background aren't doing so without purpose... I.e. nothing stupid eating up battery for no reason.

Battery life for me has improved. Wasn't bad at all before but def better now, sweet. I'll take it!

unfortunately I had to factory reset and go back to Oreo. just picked up a versa and the Fitbit app kept crashing during setup. so my watch would've been useless until the public release in August or whatever.
That is good to know because I have a versa too and have been considering trying the beta. Thanks for your input

I agree that it feels like battery is better. I also haven't done any legit testing but I definitely notice a difference. if I have light usage on the phone I can go more then a day without charging which wasn't happening before. my battery has been so good that I've decided to start using the always on display again 😂

I don't know if this is new to Android P, but when you do a search in the Settings menu for something, it will now highlight the relevant entry.

For example, if I search for "Emergency" then tap "Emergency Alert" it now highlights where that is. A minor thing that may have existed before, but a nice touch nonetheless.

I'd like to see google give you the option to hide the navigation bar completely after a few seconds. Giving you more screen. Like other phones.

I agree, although immersive mode is not too hard to enable through adb.

I went back to stable Oreo for now, I had a couple apps I need, one was a banking app that wasn't working. I had already turned off the new gestures and went back to buttons anyway so might as well have my apps all working. Otherwise for the most part the phone felt smoother and the battery did seem a touch better. I will probably try the next version too. Still not sure about the gestures, I used it for a few days and was starting to kind of get some muscle memory going but once I turned buttons back on I liked my phone a lot more again.

While Casting MLB App to my Chromecast Ultra, I would lose the stream at every "Commercial Break" and it would go back to showing my backdrop on the TV. Open the App, recast, and I could watch a half inning and as soon as it went to commercial break, the stream would stop again.

I rebooted the phone AND the Chromecast and it was fixed (wish I had only done one at a time to isolate the problem). If it happens again, I'll do it that way, but since it went to the backdrop and I didn't have a problem with YouTube, YouTubeTV or HBONow, I'm oretty sure it was the MLB App, and may or may not have been P related, though I've never experienced it before and I use it often.

I noticed something annoying. You cannot move your home screens around on pixel launcher. Once you have a page of icons or widgets you can only add to the end. You can have more home screens now but they are locked in place. I do hope they make the pages moveable again!!
