Android wear update, do I need my device running Lollipop?

Android wear update

In order for me to update to the latest Android Wear Update, which is Android wear 5.1.1 I believe, do I need to have my moto 360 paired to a device running lollipop? I have a tablet running kitkat, and my moto 360 is running the 4.4w.2. I want to update to android wear 5.1.1 but it says that no updates are available.

No, you just need the latest AW on your phone/tablet which is an app.
