I'm surprised this hasn't been asked before, but I did search and didn't find an answer.

I frequently get asked to turn on Gemini and just close the prompt, but it is a pain. Is there a way to tell the phone to stick Gemini where the monkey put the nuts?

I have a Redmi Note 13 w/ Android 15 and HyperOS 2

Not sure how long it might last, because Google is killing Assistant and pushing Gemini.

I plugged your question into Google and it says that selecting Assistant for your assistant should stop the notification. It went on to offer these instructions.

1. Revert to Google Assistant as the default assistant
The most effective way to stop the "Try Gemini" prompts is to temporarily enable Gemini and then switch back to Google Assistant. This often resolves the persistent notification loop.

  • Open your phone's Settings app.
  • Navigate to Apps.
  • Find and select the Gemini app.
  • Go to Settings > Google > Assistant.
  • Within the Assistant settings, look for an option like "Digital assistants from Google".
  • If you see the option to switch to Gemini, select "Use Gemini" temporarily.
  • Go back to the previous menu and select "Google Assistant" as your preferred digital assistant again. This should satisfy the system's request to "turn on Gemini" and then let you revert to the previous state without the recurring prompts.
Let us know if this works for you.

Well, I plucked up the courage to go into Settings, but failed at the first hurdle. Under Apps, there was no mention of Gemini, and nothing about Gemini in Assistant settings. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not sure why it would be different for Redmi. Please show screenshots of your application list and Assistant settings, to be sure we are all looking at the same things.

Gemini should show up in your Settings App list, if it doesn't it may be that as a preinstalled app you'll have to turn on "show system apps". You can usually find this behind 3 dots or lines near the top of the page that reveal a pop-up menu.

As for not finding Gemini in the Assistant settings, it could be that you missed a step in the instructions. Try these steps.
To change your assistant to or from Gemini on an Android device, open the Google app, tap your profile picture, go to Settings, then Google Assistant, Digital assistants from Google, and select Gemini. Follow the on-screen instructions to switch to the new AI assistant.

Be sure you're looking for "Digital assistants from Google" and not Gemini on the settings page.

Here are a couple of screenshots. I haven't got as far as temporarily selecting Gemini as my assistant - not that I use the assistant at all.

Looks like your App Info.

Try Settings - Google - All Services - Search, Assistant and Voice - Google Assistant - turn on Assistant only, Go back to Google Assistant setting and see if "Google Gemini" is off / not installed in the next option below Google Assistant.
I have a Xiaomi Poco F2 on the previous MIUI 14.

(I'll be without Internet for most of the week)

bottom one first 🙃

Thank you for trying to include screenshots. There are just a few issues with yours. The one of your app list is just that a random pic of your app list. I specifically was hoping to see the G section where you might find the Gemini app, more to get you to look in the correct location but also to show us if this device is truly missing Gemini. The other image of Google Assistant's app page doesn't show us anything interesting but I will say that none of the things we've talked about or that we are looking for will be found in this location.

Please follow these instructions.

Open your app drawer, usually you slide up from bottom to show all of the apps installed on your device, I assume this works the same on Redmi devices. Find the Google app, you may have other Google apps but this one just says, Google, with the G logo icon. Tap your profile picture to reveal a menu and select Settings. In the list that opens select Google Assistant. Scroll down the page here to find one that reads "Digital Assistants from Google", and tap that. This is where you will find Madd62's screenshot of the page used to change from assistant to Gemini.
