Annoying Screen Awake/Sleep Sound

excellent detective work - this had been bugging me for a few months and couldn't track it down, other than it was associated with location services.
many thanks!

Yup. 100% location services. No updates at all. I'm still waiting for lollipop for the active, and my carrier hasn't updated in a long time. No idea why GPS only gets rid of it. But it does.

For me on my s7 it was all about nfc.

My phone has been cloned

I have no solid emails and passcodes as they keep changing. My sons phone is in another set of hands. What do I do?

For me the same problem was not a location issue. It was in my Google Phone app. Going into safe mode didn't help because evidently this app loads even in safe mode. It went away when I turned off Settings/Sounds & vibration/Screen locking sound.

Welcome to Android Central! That's not the Phone app -- it's just a system setting that's pretty common among phones.

It is "Phone by Google". It is listed among "phone apps" in Google Play Store.
That menu in the Phone app is simply sending you to the system settings. The system settings do have phone-related sound options, but it's still a system settings menu, not specific to the Phone by Google app. Confusing, I know.
