I've used nothing but SGNotes since the N2 {skipped the 5.} I've used no other device. I never considered my buying decision on how fast a phone preformed in benchmark test. My decisions are based on one thing - features. What can a device do to help me navigate life. To that end, for me, NOTHING comes close or can compete with the Notes. Your mileage may vary.

Benchmark tests and specs are fun to look at sometimes, but for the average user, not Developers.. If it works for what you want and you like it? Who cares what it scores on whatever?

There is no age cut off for those that see it as a status symbol. All people don't see it that way, but you have materialistic people of every age.

If a person is looking at phones to determine the worth of someone, they aren't looking at anything important.

I am still rocking my Galaxy S5 which is performing well after 2 yrs. I thought about upgrading to the Note 7 but am now put off with significant poor or ambivalent reviews. Even on this very thread, there are posts of seemingly happy users with comments like "not the fastest phone" and "lags sometimes" etc.

I will reconsider with the Note 8 or even Galaxy X if the rumors prove true. I am not replacing my S5 with another phone that costs twice as much that seems hit or miss in performance.

I agree. Good reading for what it is. That said, this performance thing reminds of "pixel peeping" by photographers. The difference in a photo can be so slight that most don't notice and those that do will call attention to it and either applaud or denigrate a camera or the shot based on similar issues as mentioned in the article. It's always helpful to keep one's own needs and preferences in mind when judging any kind of hardware. One man's trash... (and NOT saying the Note 7 is trash)

Can't wait for my Note 7 to arrive tomorrow. We'll see then. I tend to be a bit of a pixel peeper and a bit like the Xda reviewers, but I am fairly easy to please with phones. Give me an SPen and root and I'm good to go.

I have upgraded from the Note 5 and I am very happy with the performance of the Note 7. Granted I haven't done any benchmark tests or side by side comparison to other brand of Android phones. Don't feel the need to. The Note 7 is a beautiful phone that does everything I need. Battery performance is better than the Note 5 I had.

Definitely. There's always some improvements they can do to the software to make it better.

But I'm still happy with mine. It's not the fastest phone ever, but it does a lot of things my previous phones can't, especially with that S Pen, while also being relatively fast.

I agree that it is a very good phone. As far as not fast enough ....it's fast enough for the way I use it. I mean, what, exactly, is considered fast enough? I've always wondered about that.

I have a friend in Ghana right now. He is living in a village with no electricity or running water.

Interesting that this piece came from The Verge itself.

Usually known for being biased towards Apple.

Last weeks Vergecast was similar. I was kind of shocked to hear Dieter say that the Note 7 has far surpassed the design of the iPhone...which someone (maybe him, can't recall) referred to as a surfboard.

I read all the talk of lag... thankfully im not experiencing any. Very fast, smooth, and responsive. I haven't even noticed a slight glitch yet.

And I'm getting excellent battery life. Easily get 24 hours out of a charge with 30% battery left (regular use).

I even have an Otterbox commuter case and a tempered glass screen protector o and it's working great... I was able to pull the case over the screen protector so no problems there.

So... I consider myself lucky! I'm thankful I'm not having issues like others are.

And I will tell you that vs. my previous phone that it's by no means as fast either... Mileage will vary per user. Some of us power users can see the speed different already after a short time and with plenty of space left. Those of you that just text and get 50/100 emails a day and don't do a lot on your phone other than watching youtube videos won't see too much difference. It's just a reality.

If a device having the same features as the Note 7 had better performance then I could see the reason for some less than stellar reviews. It depends.. Reviews at XDA are geared towards a different user group, looking for different things. For the majority of users, no, these aren't issues when you are talking mms and not seconds.

Now there are some things in the XDA review that Samsung needs to address.

Are the issues something that affects daily use of the general public. Nah.

Confirmation bias of users can play into some things, also the placebo effect can be real. The XDA article wasn't aimed at most users at all, but some users took it as speaking to them and every day use of something they already felt.. That is where the confirmation bias comes in.

I've been a member of XDA since It was only about Windows Mobile development - before Android was a thing. I modded the first Android device on the market [T-Mobile G1] with the guidance of those mad nerds. In all these years, all the phones I've owned and modded, there has yet to be one that didn't have flaws when it was launched. Not One. Some had a LOT more flaws than others [T-Mobile Gx2] but they all had flaws. [IMO - XDA has gone off track. A lot of developers only concern themselves with fast speedy roms with no features. ASOP and Vanilla Android. It use to be about how can be fix this crap LG made. Now it's how much of these features can I take out and still have an OS that boots... from the press of the power button to home screen in .002356 nanoseconds flat.]

Here's the thing. Everybody who has the device today, got it on pre-order or as a review unit. We are the test drones. We get to figure out the bugs there weren't found before release. That's the job of the pre-order crowd. We get to be first to experience all the greatness and not so greatness. From us, revisions will be made and updates will be issued. So find those bugs people. We got to pay Samsung to help fix their product... Seems fair.
