Anti-virus required?

No AV, never have (on my phones). If I'm downloading an app from the internet then it will most likely be from my computer first, in which I can scan with my computer's AV.

Look out Is pretty cool. I use my phone for everything,, pay all my bills with it. Few months ago my info was compromised somehow. I now use lookout and feel much better

THE BEAST,,NOTE 3. SIZE IS EVERYTHING!!!

AVG is what I use... Like the BEAST, I use my Note for everything... Gotta have my baby protected!!!

Been in android for two years and two different phones simultaneously. Have never used virus software and never had any issues. Download normal apps from Playstore and you will be fine. Download crap from other sources... just don't act surprised when you have an issue. Amazon, Playstore and Samsung apps are the only places to download.

ATT Note 3

i use avg and it has flagged some wallpapers with questionable permissions etc. i'll stick with it thanks...i dont feel as confident as you guys about the integrity of all play store apps... avg is free so why not.

I use Norton Mobile Security. Used AVG for almost 2 years and liked it. Tried AVAST but never liked the UI. For the past year Norton works best for me. Runs in the background and I never worry about it.

TMo GN3 has look out built in.

I think an AV app is needed as more hackers will be targeting mobile systems with growing popularity. Better safe than sorry.

I also do not use webkit/blink! based browser, as its one of my main activity using the phone, I would rather something third party and less integrated to the system.

I use common sense

/\
This

The problem is having common sense is really not that common!

Play Store, Amazon or where ever you get an app.......read what permission you are agreeing to give, really read them you will be amazed at what you are agreeing to allow access to on your phone!

Virus? who needs to install a virus when you can create an app and people give you access to everything you ask for.......If I am wrong or missing something let me know.

BTW I use Avast

In vanilla android there is "hidden" feature which lets you to adjust some of the rights those programs ask. Until that feature is available for full use, the common sense can take you only so far. Every damn program sees it best to require way too many rights. Some screensaver for instance first asks for right to use email and then right to use internet, just because it wants to count your emails and then query internet weather. Those are good purposes itself, but who knows that else it does with the rights?

Lookout works. it found and alerted me to "Secret SMS Replicator" on my phone when i purposely installed it as a test. if someone would surreptitiously install a spy app like this - i would probably never know about it without a scanner app like Lookout. that's enough for me. and the "Find My Phone" feature is a plus.

True, I like some of the other features that anti-virus apps bring, as well. I wouldn't use my desktop computer without an anti-virus program. Since a phone is connected to the internet, I get emails with files attached and the Play Store isn't perfect in what apps get through, my "common sense" tells me to use an anti-virus app on my phone.

Is anti-virus offered for iOS? I'd think if its needed iOS users would need it just as much if not more than Android users.

Yes, it is. Lookout and McAfee are available for iOS and I think that VirusBarrier is another common one.

I would agree. There have been times where some not so good apps have made it in to the play store.

Protected from what? Stop being paranoid... take off the "protection".
