Antivirus on PC/laptop

Hey everyone

I'm expecting delivery of a windows 8.1 laptop on Friday and I was wondering how vital antivirus software is (I haven't owned a PC/laptop in about 8 years) and which one would be worth looking into.

In my opinion, antivirus software is a must for ANY computer. I recommend Avast Antivirus. I have been using their software on my devices for years and they have never failed me. I have the Internet Security version (I pay a monthly fee), but the free version will do the job perfectly.

Avast free version works great for me. You might also consider (to run in addition to Avast) Malwarebytes anti-malware (free).

If its a windows 8.1 pc it comes with there own free called windows defender
Now it's not the best but Avast is also not the best as it does use a lot of the pc's resources
I have always used AVG (yes I no) But I have never got a virus nor as any of my family plus it's a two year licence
