any droid maxx/turbo users ever use LG? (camera questions and more)

I took this with the turbo. Obviously the AC app compresses it some but yeah. It takes great pics IMO

Sunlight, no movement. It does great under thsoe conditions. I have taken excellent shots of our daughter outdoors playing basketball, as well. So, more than the movement overall, it's the light. The margin for error is extremely small where light source is concerned. Bright indoor light (a gym with big windows during the day) isn't enough to overcome that and allow for blur-less action shots.

This was with my maxx. pretty much same distance as the concert shot above. Hence why I just feel, well, sad, about this one and realize its time to change.

My camera has always been great, minus the slightly slow shutter. I managed to take pictures of my friends doing backflips on a trampoline, and not a single one was blurry. I don't understand some of the problems people are having with this camera.

Great shot! Now, go into a gym and try and get the same result...

sigh, ok...lets do this again. Please look at my pictures and explain what I (the user) must be doing wrong taking pictures in a perfectly lit environment and having 85% of the picture fine but a slightly moving object a blurry mess? I dont understand the constant need to disprove my dislike of the camera when all I want is info on another one?

I don't understand why folks have such a hard time with the general concept that people use their phones differently. That's the case specifically with the camera, too. If your experiences are different than someone else's, it couldn't possibly be that your needs are different, it must be that you're just a bozo. See! My pics (taken under completely different conditions than the ones you're taking) prove it!

Thank you KPMcClave. I dont really enjoy how this always ends up in to a weird and angry debate where the Turbo supporters have to disprove me and tell me how wonderful the phone is, the camera is, and how dumb I am, and so on. We've had that battle before.

There is NO reason for me NOT to want this phone to work for me. I bought it outright, set it up exactly how I want it, and have all my photos, contacts, etc already in it. I would be a fool to want to go through that again. But besides all the amazing things this phone does, I didnt realize how important decent to good pictures were to me until I stopped being able to get them. And I patiently waited for a fix, or an update. Nothing. Time went on, and more and more things I wanted to capture were lost. I have some amazing concerts and opportunities coming up this summer, and really want to preserve those memories, not half of those memories clear and half a blurry mess.

So I've decided to move on, which sucks for me, to have to purchase a whole new phone, and spend that money. As I said, trust me, this phone was great. almost perfect, and I wanted it to be my phone, but it just wasnt.

These camera threads always seem to invite people arguing how great the camera is. I think it's great that people think it's either good enough for them, or even great for them, but there are others who have issues, independent reviews of the phone concur that the camera is not as good as competing phones, and I'd say it's for sure that the Turbo's camera is not as good overall (even if it can get good shots) than other phones that cost the same. For some people, having a phone that can take consistently good photos is very important to them.

To jamielov, hate to say it, but perhaps the best answer to your question is to read professional reviews. I honestly trust what the reviews on androidcentral.com say about devices and their capabilities - I think the reviewers are fair and I see no bias. Many people who buy a particular device seem to have trouble being objective about it and want to defend their choice as great, which is actually understandable.

I've never owned an LG phone myself. My sister-in-law owns one, but it's a crappy, middle of the road, Verizon exclusive model - the Lucid something or other maybe? It takes ok photos in outdoors, is otherwise a crappy camera (her kids are always making fun of the photos it takes), but it's really not a comparable phone, and that's the only experience that I have personally with an LG phone. I know a lot of people like the G3; it'll be interesting to see how the G4 is reviewed.

Note that the Maxx camera got considerably better with (as I recall) it's second software update. I think we've only had one camera update so far on the Turbo. Also, as mentioned earlier in the thread, the Lollipop OS is suppsoed to have some improvement effect on the camera, as well. I do think the first Turbo camera update may have improved things slightly, but not too noticably in the areas we're complaining about.

So, I suppose I'd wait as long as possible. I figure Lollipop is closer than farther right now. You may have a chance to actually see if the issues with the Turbo camera can be fixed via software (a hope and hunch I share).

I don't know the answer to this, so I'll ask: did the Lollipop upgrade improve the camera on the 2014 Moto X? Or, to ask the question differently, did it improve the camera enough? For some reason I have the impression that it helped a little, but there are still weird inconsistencies, particularly with focus and noise issues. But I may not be remembering that right...

Thank you Doogald. You make very good points and I 100% agree. I hesitated even bringing this up here, as all the past "discussions" just turned into an "I am right!"..."No, I AM right!" war of words. The reason I wanted to ask actual users is I was blasted last time because I was "dumb enough" to only go by the Motorola and online reviews when it was being released, and that whole promise of the powerhouse 21mp camera, and all the glowing reviews sucked me in.

KPMcClave...def on the same though process as you. I am going to try to hold out untul the VERY last minute in hopes of a miracle. The first update didnt seem to do much, though, and Im told without OIS or any of those fancy words that make pictures better, it is still working with a slower working camera. but who knows? Id like nothing more than an update to come out and make the camera at least comparable to the MAXX. I would be ecstatic to not have to purchase a whole new phone. I am attending some really special events this summer, and simply dont want to miss them. My wife won passes to meet Taylor Swift, and if I dont come out of there with amazing pictures from the event, it might be divorce worthy, lol...

One of the reasons I didn't upgrade from the Maxx to the Turbo was because of the camera. I'm hopeful the next droid will have OIS and a truly good camera but given Motorola's history that may be wishful thinking.

Yeah, its a pretty brutal history. Its taken a LOT of failed attempts and every conceivable effort (that failed) to finally give up on the Droid line. I had the Original droid, droid 2, droid 2 global, droid 3 and 4, then droid RAZR maxx, maxx and Turbo. I guess finally I grew tired of thinking...next one will finally fix this. I figured we were on to something here, with the promise of "not missing any action with the powerhouse 21mp camera at the flick of a wrist"... But man that couldn't be further from the truth, unless action = perfectly still objects in perfectly lit conditions. Even stranger Moto managed to regress, as the maxx was a pretty decent to good camera, and I'd put the Turbo at " useable" at absolute best.

I have a 2014 Moto X and the answer to that is, sadly, no not really. The weird purplish tint issue is indeed much better on Lollipop, but the focus issue for me is worse. The phone in every other way is perfect for me, but the camera - it continues to be maddeningly inconsistent and Lollipop really didn't help much at all, which was disappointing. The Turbo camera, however, has better specs I believe than what's in the X, and since you folks will be going straight to 5.1 you might see more of an improvement. I'm a huge Moto fan since the StarTac days, but the camera issue - I'm starting to get really tired of having to take 10 shots hoping to get one or two good ones, when my friends with iPhones or Galaxies consistently get great shots all the time. The only other Moto owner I know has a Turbo, and for her the camera is the only thing she misses about her Maxx. We both like to joke about how we own these otherwise awesome Moto phones with the hit-or-miss but mostly miss cameras, but it's really getting sad how often I ask a friend with an iPhone or Galaxy or whatever to take the shot and send it to me rather than taking it myself.

Exactly. Its taken a TON, as I can't remember even what the hell my phone was before any droid, lol, of failures to make me finally give up. I'll say it again, if the camera worked or works for your wants, that's great. But the pictures I posted were a small sample of what were really the norm...10+ pictures mostly of missed opportunities and blurry shots, and picking out the least messed up one to keep. I tried 7+ apps, every setting, rapid shot. Its truly maddening how badly this phone software was handled.

I will gladly look into that. The luxury of returning the one phone but having a fall back phone is I can take my time again and really investigate what I want to get.

I had the droid ultra (I know not mentioned here just back story) and switched to the G3. The G3 has an absolutely amazing camera hands down! If you are a heavy picture taker it is a great phone. However, I switched back to droid and went with the Turbo. I have not used the camera much on the Turbo which I didnt do with the G3 either. I am not a big picture taker with my phone. The reason I went to the Turbo is because the G3 was slow, lagged, and in my opinion they spent more time on the camera and screen then they did on optimizing the OS. I guess what I am saying is to me the Turbo is a better phone than the G3 except for the camera. Hope this helps some

I think we've all read your post and understand. I don't think others are posting in response to tell you you're wrong. I think they're trying to tell you that something isn't right on your phone.

I have a tough time getting the pictures you do. I can get close to the blurry shots you get in low light indoors with HDR turned on.

Maybe you need to get a new phone through warranty? Nobody thinks you're lying. But our phones aren't doing it with the consistency that you've achieved. Something isn't right

I think you were probably intending that for jamielov, but...

People posting action shots outdoors in bright sunshine aren't responding to the issues he, I, and others have described. That's just a fact. A picture like the trampoline pic, while a very nice shot, is irrelevent when talking about the conditions we've had trouble with on the Turbo. Becuase I could take the same quality shot in that situation.
