I had the Gear 1, the Gear 2 Neo and I have the Gear S, all for the same reasons; I like my tech gadgets. Do I need them? No. Do I use them on a daily basis? Yes.
You don't have to be without your phone, but it may happen. For example, I was at my son's school for a meeting. We went outside to do something and didn't feel like taking our purses, didn't feel I needed my phone either. Walked out the door, and as it shut, I realized at that moment, I needed my phone, then I remembered I had one, used my watch and someone let is in.
Second scenerio, when I ride my bike, I didn't really like taking my phone, so now I will only have my watch.
So while you may not need it. It CAN come in handy.
