Any ideas when ICS will hit the EVO 3d?

This whole updating thing is causing a dilemna for me. We purchase these phones with a subsidy from our carriers for 2 years locked in, but only get bug fix updates and firmware until the carrier's next money maker gets released. Usually that means one or no major feature updates. The great thing about Sprint has been that you can upgrade a year later but it's almost effectively forcing you to pay $200+ to upgrade the Android software version!

With VZW starting to release more info on family shared data plans, these delays and the cost I have with Sprint not even announcing yet who their LTE provider is, I have a tough time continuing on a lagging network to save $10-$15/month.

I hate to lose the annual upgrade I qualify for at Sprint with being a 10 year customer, any thoughts on this balancing act? Maybe better to get the better network and just plan on rooting to get newest software???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am also a customer of 10+ years and I thought everyone lost the yearly upgrade option with the death of the Sprint Premier program.

Pretty sure It remains for gold customers only. I still have it.

from what I understand it is gone you get one last upgrade untill the end of the year and then it is every 20 or 22 months

yeah, I think that is the case....I get my last upgrade in June, and I believe I have to use it by the end of the year....

The Sprint Premier program ended on 12/31/11. However, Sprint Premier Gold customers — who aren't immediately eligible under the Sprint New for YouSM Upgrade Program - will have until the end of 2012 to take advantage of their annual upgrade. Once customers take advantage of their annual upgrade, they will seamlessly transition to the Sprint New for You Upgrade Program. If they don't take advantage of their annual upgrade by 12/31/12, they will continue to immediately qualify for an upgrade under the Sprint New for You Upgrade Program.

Yup, premier is over. But every 20 months isn't too bad. A couple months past a year and a half. Everyone else is still 22 months with a few exceptions. Basically an industry standard. Like upgrade fees. Yeah, it's not annual, but I'm happier with only paying $200 for top of the line devices vs the $300 Verizon charges.

Also, Sprint won't be announcing a 4G LTE provider because they are building their own. It all goes along with their network vision rollout.

Back on topic, as far as when we will see ICS on our EVO 3D's, my guess is sometime between now and whenever the EVO 4G LTE is released. At this point, I doubt Sprint/HTC even know for sure. All they've done is "promise" it will get it.

I haven't seen a promise from Sprint yet, but HTC has told me on Twitter that we are getting it. If we get ICS on the EVO 3D, it will last me for a while longer.

I just bought my white Evo 3D yesterday and I am already praying for the new update. I have played around with ICS on another phone but it was a custom ROM and it was buggy. I can't wait to see it on my new phone. My Toshiba Thrive tablet is supposed to get the update by the end of June. That will be nice to. Having it on both devices will rock.

I've gotten used to how my Evo 3D is now so I can wait for ICS to come out. Might be a little annoying when I have to update anyway.

I suggest that if you just bought the evo3d, Switch it for the nexus. coming from the evo3d i can honestly say the it was the most underwhelming device i have ever had. It was so buggy and sense really slowed everything down. And the camera! It was horrible. the nexus is silky smooth and the camera is amazing. It really has a great sensor. The screen is amazing too.

..you point out the good. But tell him the bad too. Phone call quality is very poor. The construction is also has a cheap feel.

I have very little to say as to the bad. The speakers are great. As appose to Evo 3d speakers which had no volume at all . As for cheap my Evo 3d's bezel became unglued with absolutely no drops or physical damage on my part. My nexus is far from cheap . Just one look at the screen would tell you. And I've been using it naked since launch with not a single nick or scratch. The Evo 3d was cheap with its plasticy back and cheap bezel as well as poor speaker and horrible cameras.

So I guess all them threads with all them issues is just a bunch of nonsense. Lolol. No device is perfect. They all have issues.

The Evo 3D has already gotten one major update (the one that sped everthing up and gave the screenshot capability) and probably about 5 minor updates (bug fixes) since launch. Plus the ICS update coming. I'd say that's pretty good. HTC is usually pretty good with their updates, continuing to provide updates much longer than most other manufactures.

I don't think Sprint has any more delays than any other carrier. They are all rolling out ICS updates at basically the same time. Actually I've read that Verizon is one of the slowest at updates, but I don't know for sure as I've never been a verizon customer.

Also Sprint is Sprint's LTE provider. They are building their LTE network on their own. It's costing them a lot of money, but it will give them control over their network and should allow them to keep the network quality very high.

Don't know what to tell you. I've been very please with Sprint over the last 8 years, but you have to do what makes sense to you.
