Any iPhone switchers conflicted about the Note 10?

I'm not new to Android or Samsung. Let's just get that out of the way (been using Android since the real OG T-Mobile G1)! LOL. But I have been using an iPhone consistently (with stints of use with other Android devices sprinkled in) since the iPhone 6 was released. I still have a XS Max. I always keep an iPhone and Android device.

I'm using the Note 10+ plus now and while it's an outstanding phone, I really miss iMessage. Sending pics and video to (and from) this device is just not a very good experience - especially when surrounded by iPhone users (like I am).

Another thing that annoys me is notifications. I turn all that (at least I try to) crap off like data and battery optimization and I still may miss a notification because somehow, the Note (or Android in general) may THINK I don't need something and decide to not notify me until I turn the screen on. And then I realize that you can't really turn battery optimization off all together - you have to do it by app. *Sigh*

Anyway, there are loads I love about the Note 10; the screen, customization, pop-up view, smart select...on and on. However, when the most used app for me 99% of the time is messaging, it just leads to questioning. That's all.

I get where you are coming from. I have been an iPhone user for years, since the iphone 4. My whole family uses iOS and i went out and got a Note 10+ about a week and a half ago. I do miss the ease of iMessage but for me it’s not really a deal breaker. If you stick it out, you’ll find it gets easier to get over. LOL

My Max was horrible with notifications. They never stayed cleared and came back from days ago. You can always change setting to make notifications more active. It will sap some battery but that shouldn't be much of an issue with the great battery life we have these days. iPhones bore me after awhile....I enjoy the 10+ more than the Max.

Yeah, my wife has an iPhone and, now I changed my X for a Note 10+, I'm really missing iMessage and the way I used to communicate with her. Trying to get used with just SMS messages - no space for WA with us - but I must confess it's difficult. The Note is an outstanding gadget and will pay off surely, but it's not easy at all...

I guess you’re in the States??? Why don’t you and your wife download WhatsApp or messenger then it’s problem solved.

No, we are in Brazil. And we don't download WA because it's Facebook, and we don't like Facebook. We use what we want and not what other people tells us to use... So, for us, WA or FB Messenger are not an option. SMS will have to work for us, and that's it. But this makes me miss my iPhone now I'm in the Note 10 wagon...

That’s fair enough but there must be another messaging app that isn’t owned by Facebook to make life easier.

My girlfriend and I switched from the iphones to the notes. We love the notes, weren't to impressed with the new iphones that just came out.

I carry both android and iPhone devices. They both have their good and bad points but the lack of imessage is the number one complaint people have. If apple didn't have imessage android would have 75% of the smartphone market.

This is and has been a valid argument for years, iMessage is brilliant lets face facts it's on all Apple devices and the only SMS service you can use.

Then we have Android with hundreds of fragmented SMS apps, Google tried with their messenger app but the fact it's not on every Android phone makes it a big problem.

Hundreds of different Android messaging apps? More like less than a dozen if you use the default ones by major brands. And iMessage isn’t the only SMS service you can use (don’t know where on Earth you got that from)...technically it’s not even an SMS service! There are plenty of good messaging apps. I can’t understand what’s so ‘great’ about iMessage that makes it a dealbreaker.

I did miss iMessage when I switched but Android equivalents are as good and it’s a small price to pay for superior overall hardware and software (in my opinion) which offers you much more customisation.

Hands up apologies I thought Apple locked in users to iMessage, saying that if you have a iPhone you aren't using any other SMS app as imessage works well and syncs across all Apple devices.

I wouldn't describe it as a deal breaker but it's something Google wishes they had, they've tried Allo and Duo, Messages, Hangouts etc and no matter how hard they try they can never come up with anything to compete with iMessage and Facetime, mainly due to fragmention and brands like Samsung, Sony etc wanting customers to use their messaging apps it's a mess

iMessage is not an just SMS service. That’s only part of it. iMessage is a messaging app that allows you to send full resolution pics and video (among other features) to anyone with another iPhone. That cannot be duplicated in other android apps because there are so many and there isn’t one app across all android devices. That’s why whatsapp and FB messenger are often thrown into the conversation.

For instance, I have yet to find an android app that will play gifs consistently. The stock Samsung app will play a gif a few times, and then stop. I don’t know why. Makes no sense really. LOL

True...fragmentation is both a key strength and weakness of Android. Having Google Messages installed on all Android devices would be a good idea but knowing the current state of our world when it comes to big tech companies Google will probably be fined/taken to court over monopolistic policies etc

I am pretty sure Iphone users are locked to Imessages for SMS. At least they were when I last tried an Iphone.

It’s the default messaging app...pretty sure you can’t use anything else. This is an example of how restrictive Apple is and why I prefer Android.

I'm a big fan of iMessage, but it hasn't been a huge issue for me. Photos and GIFs send fine. That's what I care most about. Granted I would prefer an iMessage-like solution. Maybe one day...
