Has anyone tried and noticed a difference going from evcr to evrc-b?

For anyone else wanting to know this....I did this & it really works! My calls were clear before, but now if I weren't holding the cell phone in my hand I would swear I was on a landline.

Here is how you can do it:

Step 1. Dial ##7764726 (##PROGRAM)
Step 2. Enter 6 0's (Zeros) as the password & tap Verify.
Step 3. Select 04 Vocode
Step 4. Select EVRC - B
Step 5. Apply and Phone will reboot.

It works great until you hit a newer tower and your phone goes dead. It is an older, albeit clearer, codec that uses more bandwidth.

Um...I think you have it backwards. EVRC-B is the newer technology, not the older.

Enhanced Variable Rate Codec B - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The phone by default is set to just EVRC with was developed in 1995. I haven't experienced any dropped calls since switching mine, only had crystal clear calls instead of just clear calls.

Ah you are correct. So if you hit an older tower. All I know is we have plenty of people on another forum that did it and got silence ;)

That's odd....I live in the rural midwest & it has never happened to me. We would have the older tower technology around here because we are a long way from getting LTE coverage.

I'm sorry, but I call BS on that. Do you have a link to that forum or thread?

El Jefe is dead on with his response here. I did these several weeks ago and I have not had a single complaint about call quality, especially if I have two bars of signal. Everyone should give this a try.

I just set this up on my X. We'll see how it goes over time, although I have no complaints at all on my current call quality. Well, maybe one, but it seems to exist on all cell phones that I know of...I hate that 1 second delay between you speaking and the other caller hearing you. You end up talking over each other all the time, as if you needed to use walkie talkie lingo and say "over" when you finish saying something. If this change fixes that, it will be a whole new world for me.

Grey, from my past experience with the EVR tweak, you will still experience overtalking. Especially when talking to mad women. LOL
