Anybody going to Switch to S5 from Note 3?

Have a S3 now with an upgrade coming in Sept. Hoping the N4 will n
be out by then. Will probably be everything the S5 is plus S pen.

I'm looking at the N4 to blow away the S5 in every measure of the term.

Prolly a 64bit chip, 3GB ram, 6 inch 2K screen 3600 to 3800mAh battery, and a 16MP camera just to name a few. But of coarse, it's speculation. The S5 will be a distant memory.

I don't see how the S5 is a minor upgrade to the S4. Fingerprint sensor, faster processor than the Note 3, HRM, and a plethora of other add on's and yet it's a minor bump up? Really? If the Note 4 is the same "minor bump" up to the Note 3, I'll buy 2. Amazing that the world ends when Apple moves from a 5 to a 5S with no perceptible benefit, but when Samsung goes from an S4 to an S5 with some real upgrades, it's a minor bump up...gee.

I was largely putting it in the context of this thread, meaning, is it enough of an upgrade to switch from a Note 3 or S4 right now. So far, no, subject to change? I guess what I was thinking to myself was that at this point until I see positive reviews showing me why all these improvements are things that'll make my daily experience that much better, what I've seen so far is "minor" in *my* opinion. That's not necessarily a bad thing. If a finger print reader is going to rock your world, awesome, but as a Note 3 owner (same applies to S4) still being in year one of ownership, there's nothing in the initial S5 reports that would make me want to run out and drop that amount of money so quickly. To me, it speaks to the quality of the S4 and Note 3 -- they're damn impressive devices. The S5 is an iteration, but not a reinvention, nor do I expect it to be every year. I don't have that expectation that every year the phone has to be breathtakingly new in every way in order to be successful or make the old one appear so obsolete.

With a quality product to start with I can go 2 or possibly 3 years and be happy. If the camera is that much better, the finger scanner consistently works (proves useful) and et al, it very well might be worth it, but its got a lot to prove. Time will tell. If was an S3 owner or someone on a 2-3 year old device, completely different story, huge upgrade.

Nope lol. I just Really hope that we get the UI changes. I am a bit jealous of the camera, and showing off the finger print scanner would be nice but probably more of a gimick to me.

Patience is a virtue and all the great products come at the end of the year well September - early December :-)

It took me longer than 17 seconds to read your post. :)

I wouldn't bet on that. The note 3 wasn't a massive upgrade on the S4, aside from the S-pen features. It had an extra gig of ram, a slightly faster processor and 4K video recording.

I hope we don't see the same unrealistic predictions for the note 4, and when it doesn't happen Samsung is declared a flop again.

There are some nice features in the S5 and couple this with the updates S-pen features the note 4 should make a nice upgrade.

I hope the Note 4 is not much better than the Note 3.

At least that way I won't feel compelled to upgrade again :)

Your forgetting the bump from a SD 600 to a SD 800 which is a big update within itself. Coupled with an extra gig of ram, 4k recording, 5.7 inch screen, s-pen, the faux leather back, and usb 3.0. Those along with the software for the s-pen was a MASSIVE upgrade over the S4.

I hope we don't see the unrealistic expectations either. BUT, to stay with the success of the Note series it will be a huge upgrade over the S5. IF not, then yeah, it will be a flop because there will be no incentive to upgrade.

No way. I love the Note 3 and don't think switching to the S5 is an upgrade. I will wait for the Note 4.

Agreed. They will add some of the features of the S5 to the Note 4 with no doubt such as the finger print scanner. If they add the hideous dimpled back and the SD 801, with no other compelling features to the Note 4, it had better be a "premium" device for me to upgrade from the N3. But I bet what I said earlier.

As Note 4 will come later this year I guess it will have the new cpu 64. Was it not like April or so CO should show of the new "805", to early for s5 but not for next Note..:)

Well yes the screen was bigger. But that was a given due to the fact that it was a note. I'm saying if you disregard the note specific features like the larger screen and the S-pen. Yeah I forgot that it went from Snapdragon 600 to 800. However in real life use there isn't much difference. I had the S4 and now my boyfriend uses it. To be honest comparing it to my note 3 I don't see much of a difference.

Thus pretty much sums up the argument going on in this thread. The S5 is a improvement in the S line for sure, and even an upgrade to the Note series. But that isn't the point, the S series and Note series are meant to be different. When I see the complaints about how the S5 isn't that great, it's silly because it's like those people believe every Rumor they heard and expected a miracle phone. Like the article points out, phones are not going to be making the leaps and bounds the once did, they focused on the complaints coming from the masses and not the techies like that read these forums. I bet the Note 4 will have a ton a people complaining too when it comes out about how much of a disappointment it is as well, because again, people will expect miracles, just like I saw people complaining about how the Note 3 was only minor upgrade from the S4.

I couldn't agree more with what you just wrote. Kudo's to you! Most posts in this thread are from the brain-dead.

The wife and I are getting Note 3 phones early this coming week, from Verizon. Looking forward to the slightly larger screen size than we have right now with the GS3.

I prefer the N3 because of the stylus and the screen size. Our allows me to do more without having to carry a tablet as I previously did as a coach. Now I just carry the N3 when scouting and recruiting.
