Anybody had this problem?

My droid had no volume during calls this morning. The only way to hear was to place on speaker phone. Like that for a while and now is working. Just wondered if anybody else has experienced this.

Do you have any sound profile apps installed? First thing I would do is check any apps you have installed recently, as one of them could be the culprit.

Second, I would try powering down and restarting your Droid. See if that helps and if the problem persists.

No I haven't this is the first u heard of this bug. That's crazy how does your phone have volume now or are you still using the same hack

Mine did not have this problem. Actually I had the reverse, mine was on full volume. THat was probably my fault, however.

I have this a couple times each week but Ive never tried to turn on the speaker phone I just shut the phone off completely and turn it back on.

Just a thought, do you have any emulators on your phone? (nes, snes, etc.)

I had this happen 2-3 time on Sat. to me when receiving a call, it was the first time it has happened and all I did was hang up and call back and it was fine. I did notice that I had signal, like 3 bars but it did not show 3G or 1X but when I called back it showed 3G and 3 bars. I did not try to put it on speakerphone

I have not had this problem, but my volume for the media keep getting reset to zero.

You could have a defective speaker in your headset, which would be why it worked during speakerphone, but does not work regularly.

Never, had a few calls with the volume really low then just end the call and call back then the problem is gone (bad connection).

I had this problem too -- I found elsewhere on the web that this can happen if you are listening to music with earphones and pull out the earphones before stopping the music player. apparently the phone gets confused (pardon the terminology; clearly I'm not a techie) and thinks that the earphones are still plugged in, which is why you aren't hearing anything on the call. resolve by either restarting or doing a battery pull. adn turn off the music before removing your headphones going forward -- I haven't had a problem since I started doing that.

Restarting is fine. If the phone is responsive, a battery pull is never needed on the Droid.

good to know. is there a reason to avoid doing a battery pull; i.e. is it bad for the phone/battery?

I haven't had this problem with my Droid, but I remember having this problem when I had a moto v551 way back in the day......I had 4 different ones before they finally let me switch.

Unfortunately this is a problem with some smartphones from what I've seen and experienced. It usually occurs when listening to music via the headphone jack (whether using headphones or a stereo cable). During music play or even after, unplugging the cable from the jack leaves the phone in this state (speakerphone only mode). As a result I've developed the habit of checking my phone everytime I unplug my headphones. To do this I simply click the volume up / down button and listen for the beep. If no beep, I know it's stuck in speakerphone only mode. So all I do is launch the music player and an mp3, then plug in my headphones (or aux cable) in and out of the jack which usually clears it. I've had one instance where it didn't clear and I had to reboot the phone but that was only once and 8 out of 10 times I don't have the problem to begin with.

I knew about this little 'fix' because one of my previous phones (iphone 3g) had this issue and the fix was the same. The Pre had lots of complaints about this as well with the same solution.

I've also noticed that my other pair of headphones that have 3 rings (four segments) on the jack itself fits snuggly and don't seem to cause this problem. Unfortunately its performace is subpar so I end up using another pair with better bass. However it's this pair that seem to cause this issue (it has the normal 2 rings with 3 segments on the jack itself). So simply changing the headphones can probably be a workaround for this problem.

I've had both of these happen to me every once in a great while. I just chalk it up to a 3rd party app. Every time a reboot fixes it.

It isn't bad for the battery or the phone, but it isn't necessary to pull the battery unless the phone is completely unresponsive. Powering down and restarting the phone is sufficient, pulling the battery won't do anything more for the phone than that.

Towards the end of it there is a link to this application that fixes audio problems. This works great on both of my Droids when they get goofy.

I was having the same issue - after unplugging an AUX cable from the headphone jack, I was not getting any audio through the earpiece while on calls. Speaker and headset would work fine, though. I couldn't get sound through the phone playing video or music either when it was in that state. It seemed like the phone didn't register the headphone jack being unplugged. A soft reset would fix the issue.

After reading the above thread on DroidForums, I called Verizon. The rep paused a bit to "check if it's a known issue". After less than a minute, she asked if I had my contacts backed up. I could tell where this was heading, so I let her know I had already tried a hard reset, and the problem persisted. Without hesitation, she arranged for a warranty replacement (I'd had the the phone for about 90 days, but the warranty on the phone is one year). I was going to be out of town when the shipment was scheduled to arrive, so she checked my local store, and they had plenty in stock, so the store swapped my phone for a refurb with no questions asked.
