Anybody using an iBolt dock with your S5?

Just got my wife an iBolt dock for her S5, since she likes mine for my Note 3. I got the one they specifically recommend, but I cannot get their Dock Mode app to work. All it does is blink for a split second. If you're using this (dock with Dock n Drive and Dock Mode apps) and it works as they say, how'd you do it? I've already emailed them for assistance but thought I would post here. Thanks!

S5 does not have DockMode functionality.

Understand but dockmode app works with NFC to open dock n drive app. iBolt specifically recommends this for the S5 since it doesn't have the dockmode function. Think I'm missing something simple somewhere.

Hi, I'm from iBOLT so I can answer the question. There are two things going on with the S5:

1. No DockMode support: Unfortunately Samsung have disabled the basic Android functionality of triggering the DockMode. This works great with our "NFC Connect Kits" on HTC, Moto, LG etc but not on S5. Basically it appears that Samsung does not want another App, like our Dock'n Drive, the CarHome Ultra or the Ulysse Speedometer type "car home" screen. We are working on a solution and expect before end of May to publish and updated DockMode and/or Dock'n Drive app with a work around.

2. No support for analogue audio out: All previous versions of Samsung Galaxy or Note handsets have featured the excellent "audio out" through the microUSB. Samsung's own Media dock takes advantage of this feature as well. The benefit is that the user can have one cable that connects to the microUSB and charges the phone and the other end also "splits" into an aux-out, allowing this to be plugged into the car-stereo for a good quality music integration. This feature is no longer supported on the S5 so any user would have to plug in both a charging cable (microUSB) and a separate aux-out to have car-stereo connection. This does not make any sense whatsoever as this functionality in our opinion was a major feature versus for example the iPhone. We have not found a technical solution for this yet but we are continuing to work on.

I hope the above makes sense?

Thanks! Mikael Pe

Thanks Mikael. Heard from Braden today via email saying basically the same things. Guess I misunderstood on your website that the pro dock with NFC tag would still work with S5. I did know about no dock mode, thought your dockmode app was the workaround. Will be looking for updated app(s) on your site.

I use the dock and app fine on my SG5. I had to create a Tasker profile to force launch the app when the orientation of the phone was in dock and the headphone jack was connected to the phone (..and to my truck radio, since my truck doesn't have bluetooth). Other than that, works like a charm.

I love the S5, but this whole thing of not being compatible with the iBolt cardock is annoying. My workaround:

Using NFC and Samsung TecTiles, I attached one to the cardock and programmed it to launch CarHome Ultra (my preferred cardock app). The USB to Audio hasn't worked for me, so I found this:

Amazon.com: HTC Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Clip Adapter - Retail Packaging - Black: Electronics

I have a dual USB charger, a short cable plugs into the HTC adapter (paired with my S5) which I just leave plugged in, then the other port charges the phone while in the dock (make sure your USB charger is beefy enough (2.4 amps) to travel the 9' length of cable).

This works for me.
