Anyone developing hot spots on the screen?

Yes from what I understand they are spots mainly cause by the processor getting too hot and having a reaction with the screen... Sprint knows this is an issue (much like the loose charging ports) and should provide a fix for free..

I have a replacement phone and it came with the spot already. The only reason I am not going to fix it is because I am going to wait until the Evo 3D comes out then get it fixed right before so that I have a nice mint condition phone to sell... ;)

You all that are getting the fix for free via Sprint...are you using insurance?

I went to two corporate Sprint stores in the past months and tried to get my screen replaced due to two b-spots but was denied service since I do not have insurance; I was told to contact HTC to receive manufacture warranty service.

HTC requires me to mail in the phone which I would then be out of a phone for 2-4 weeks which is not possible in my situation. I do not purchase insurance on my phone since I take great care of it and have never damaged any of my expensive phones. The b-spot is a manufacture defect and the consumer should not be required to use insurance or cough up $35 to have the screen replaced.

People that say Sprint has nothing to do with the manufacture warranty and should not be held liable is ****ting themselves. Sprint decided to carry this phone and in that case is now partnered with HTC, thus they should be backing their products 100%. Sprint could at least step up to the plate and offer the consumer a phone to borrow while having to mail out the phone for manufacture warranty.

Since receiving the EVO at a subsidized price, basically the phone is still being paid off until that 2-year contract is up. I wonder how much "roaming" is required to be terminated and for Sprint to eat the cost of the phone that they would not fully support.

...

They're using equipment protection through Sprint, not the Asurion insurance which would require a $100 deductible to get a refurbished phone.

I also have that hot spot on my screen. It's on the lower right corner area, and only visible when the background is white. I also have a dead pixel on the upper left portion of the screen. It honestly didn't bother me much at all, except now THIS Evo seems to be developing charging port issues, so I'll have them address the screen as well when I take it in.

I had one shortly after launch, then another one developed. I don't have insurance and just took it in to my local Sprint store for a warranty replacement, took about 5 minutes.

Were you within the 30 day return period? Did they replace the whole phone or just the screen?lp

I bought my Evo in mid-July, and it developed a hot spot about a centimeter in diameter about an inch above the back button. Recently, I have noticed what appears to be a point of light (small but more intense) a few millimeters above the back button. I also have one dead pixel.

I'm surprised to hear about Fred's experience returning the phone to the Sprint store, since it sounds like his experience is the exception rather than the rule.

I can't say that the spots bother me enough to try to get it repaired or swapped (it is a bit annoying for a device this expensive), but I would be concerned if these things grow or continue to develop.

Nope, it was probably in September, it's a manufacturer issue so fell within the one year warranty period.

I think when I got to reception at the store I just said I'm here for a warranty replacement on my Evo, waited a minute someone called my name, showed the Sprint person my Evo, she grabbed one from the back and swapped my sd card and battery, scanned a barcode or two and that was it.

Wow. I've got to call around some more then, most stores would just dismiss it and say they have nothing to do with manufacture warranty. I've had the hotspots since day 1, and tried to get it replaced within the 30 day period, but the lack of stock made it impossible. I basically lived with it until now and it still doesn't bother me that much, but would decrease the resell value quite a bit as I'm thinking about jumping-ship to TMO.

All in all, this is horrible quality control:

I've had these hot spots for a while. i think one is getting bigger. And I just noticed a fairly large piece of dust under my screen in the top left corner. I will be taking my phone in tomorrow. I'll update with my results.
