Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

I know what the OP means. He's seen vids of people abusing these phones and the phone survives. It doesn't seem right when an easier drop happens to your phone and it breaks. It's just very unpredictable what happens, just like a car wreck. OP I feel your pain.

I wonder if the insurance is even worth it, the deductible is as high as the repair bill.

Depends on how it lands and what it lands on. This is not a cause for suing Samsung. Just needs to take better care of his phone.

I was running my s6 naked. Phone slipped out of my hand getting out of my truck and I just barely saved it from dropping. I shattered an old HTC that way. My UAG case is back on the S6. I'm glad I didn't find out if it would of survived or not....

The videos show the phone falling on a FLAT surface. That means the impact is relatively distributed over a large area. However if the phone drops on something uneven, the impact is concentrated on a single point, or several small points, giving enough pressure to shatter the screen. Same principle as to why trying to stand on a nail would puncture a foot, but a bed of nails won't even draw blood.

Exactly this. My son has dropped his GS7 Edge multiple times and not a scratch. I dropped mine once and it shattered. $175 deductible. Ouch. Got my replacement but I'm fairly certain I'll be canceling the insurance.

Dropped mine from about 3 feet on driveway - minimalist case too and not a mark. Just lucky I guess!

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

My point is when a consumer pays $800 for a phone and there are MULTIPLE reports of the screen cracking at nothing, some without even a drop occuring, there are design issues with the phone. Its simply not fair for Samsung to not back their product and do something to take care of paying customers.

I get it, glass will break but there are many more instances of phones that withstand MUCH more abuse than cracking in your pocket. This isnt a consumer problem, this is a design flaw.

Yours didn't crack in your pocket. You dropped it. People tried this with Apple before. They didn't win. What makes you think you will? You know buying it that the phone is glass. You obviously know glass breaks when handled improperly, as I assume you are far from an *****. Anyone can tell you that this won't hold in court. Manufacturers don't cover mishandling my the users as design flaw. It's user flaw.

I have my S7 Edge in a Otterbox Symmetry case since I got the phone. I've dropped it several times now and there's not a scratch on it. The Edge feature works fine too.

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

i dropped my s7 edge while i was awaiting my ordered Otterbox to arrive. no damage or issues.

Reminds me of that law suit where some woman apparently sued a coffee company for not putting a sign on the cup that coffee is hot.

What do you expect if you don't put a protective case on the phone and drop it? bounce like a ball?

way off topic... but that lawsuit was legit. there were smoking guns in emails stating they knew that their coffee was significantly hotter than any other restaurants and that they knew of risks and injuries.

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

I had the s6 edge with a Zagg HD Invisibleshield which was dropped on it's face at least 10 times never crack. I now have the s7 edge with the same screen protector and so far I haven't tested the new theory. Look, it's glass and when you drop glass and it hits something at the right angle it will break. So treat it well, be careful and protect it, or get the accidental warranty.

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

So you dropped your phone and somehow that's Samsung's fault? I don't know of any phone that won't break if you drop it short of the Droid Turbo.

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

It should be mandatory to have a first party clear case in box with every purchase...

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

Give it time, I have the same case. People arent understanding my point. I had an S3 that I dropped well over 100 times, NO CRACKS what so ever. This phone cracked with the simpliest of drops. Yeah yeah, its glass and it can crack, blah blah blah...Yes that is a true statement but all Im saying is the design of this phone IS FLAWED. Way too many reports of the phone cracking even without a drop. I feel Samsung could have done a better job than to make a design that is so exposed to a cracked screen and then add a $300 bill to fix it. This is an S7 model, not an S2....they should get better and better not worse...

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

I expect an $800 phone WITH a Spigan case on it to not break with one drop. Thats my expectations of an $800 bill. Its not like I was playing basketball with the phone and by example my S3 hit the ground well over 100 times and never broke. It dropped every angle you could imagine and is STILL new looking.

Re: Anyone dropped their S7 Edge and it didnt Crack??!?!?!

Its pretty clear most people havent yet experienced the frustration I have. As stated there are other sites of stories of this S7 Edge cracking by carrying it in your back pocket. Not dropping the phone at all. Hopefully you all will not go through what I just experienced.

Why are you dropping your phones so much? Since dropping your phone appears to be common place for you, it might be a good idea to either get the most rugged case on the market or stay clear of purchasing high-end phones.

It is just designed differently. You can't compare a phone made back in the S3 days to now. In the S3 days it wasn't glass .. now it is. You have to take some account before making a purchase when this is the case.

You're also welcome to the opinion of them doing a better job but they advertised the phone being glass right out of the gate so suing or anything of that nature isn't going to work. They didn't hide the fact it was glass or advertise it being smashed hard and dropped a ton like the Droid Turbo 2.
