Anyone else decided in advance NOT getting the Note 8?

Re: The Note 8 might be a relative sales disappointment

It'll be low relative to the other Notes or relative to what? (I agree with you btw)

Other Notes. Main reasons IMO are the device being similar size to the 8+, thinner portrait mode to previous Notes and likely smaller battery.

Also, the curve wastes useful surface space for pen users.

If the Note 8 has flatter display, 16:9, stereo speakers and 3500mah battery. Insta buy. Besides that unlikely combo- Nope. Stereo speakers though.... Nah, not happening.

Re: The Note 8 might be a relative sales disappointment

Love everything I've seen/read about it except if the Hunchback of Notre Dame is correct THAT ugly lump is a deal breaker right there.

I love how on one hand we call the Note brand a "niche" device for a particular customer, and then on the other, a potential sales disappointment based on a bunch of what ifs.

For me the success of the next Note is nearly impossible to predict, but I would never underestimate the power of Samsung marketing, which has still managed to get millions of people to buy a phone with an unproven new aspect ratio build, curved screens that supposedly everyone hates, and no Bixby. All following a disastrous Note 7. lol

I think it used to be a niche device. I believe Samsung just sees it as another premium release for the second half of the year. The only thing not mainstream about the Note now is the price.

Even that's pretty mainstream, very much in line with the top end Q4 releases, if a little underwhelming in what you get for it.

I most certainly won't pre-order. I'll wait for it to go on sale for Black Friday or something like that and get it. I own my pixel XL outright so I'm in no hurry.

IF I were to get the Note 8 I would wait a couple months to see if they have deals on unlocked versions OR Samsung.com sells the Note 8 with discounts like they have recently did with the S8. I could have waited a couple months and picked up an s8 Plus for cheaper but I was sick of the S7 edge size and wanted my Plus right away.

At least with the S8 Plus I got a current phone and big screen so there is no hurry to be the first to buy it this time.

I got the cash but I spend way too much on this stuff. I might wait for a deal on the Tab S3 to go down into the $400-$450 range. On sale again right now for $500 but that is too high for a tablet and then have to buy a case for it and all. I would probably wait until later in the fall for a samsung.com deal.

I got a feeling because the S line now has a flagship jumbo screen that it will eat into Note 8 sales and they might have better deals.

Re: The Latest Render at the Galaxy Note 8 paints an ugly Picture!

Well, you know the camera hump similar on the V20 and the mess that caused with the camera easily breaking, even with thick cases on it.

My V20 has done great. Dropped it once with case and 3 times without case. 2 of those times it landed on the back and not a scratch. V20 a great phone. I just missed Samsung phones so went back to note 5 til note 8 comes out.

I'm tapped out. Bought the S8+ & Galaxy Book 12 on the same day.

Unless they bring back the replaceable battery (which they won't) I'm sticking with the S8+. Will miss the stylus but if it is anywhere as fragile as the Note 5 I can accept the loss.

One other thing, I believe Samsung has completely blown it with the S pen software. It could be so much more particularly for business purposes. Most of the templates are useless unless you're a little girl keeping a diary. The same with Scrapbook: adequate at best.

I say this as someone who had the Note series from the 2 forward.

Re: The Note 8 might be a relative sales disappointment

I consider the Note to be a niche product - - but until recently an extraordinarily profitable one.

I suspect that the S8 & S8+ will soften sales considerably for the Note. But who knows.

But claiming the Note series outsells the Galaxy S devices is pure fantasy and can easily be rebutted by a Google search. Both great lines with no reason to criticise one over the other.

I'll probably stay with the S8+ although I was a hardcore Note user. Maybe the Note 9.

I think they used cheaper materials to cover the lens as opposed to the fault being the hump.

Re: The Note 8 might be a relative sales disappointment

I'll get it no matter what. The past year with the S7Edge has been okay, but I miss the Spen on a daily basis. I was perfectly willing to keep the N7 for 2 years because I loved that phone like no other (I had 3, all perfect). But after a year without the Spen, I'm more than ready for the N8. Notes are made for people like me. 😏

Same here. I'm glad I got my note 5 to hold me til the note 8

Re: The Latest Render at the Galaxy Note 8 paints an ugly Picture!

reminds me of the old "Chocolate Bar" phones from back in the day.

Disappointed as hell and keeping my Note 5

After reading and seeing all the recent updates on the Note 8 I'm becoming increasingly disappointed and irritated at what I'm seeing and hearing. I don't see enough improvements to warrant purchasing this and getting rid of my 5. The fingerprint scanner placement is "better" not too good. The narrower and curved screen does not seem to mesh with a Note and it's purposes. Smaller battery than the S8+....boooooo. Other software upgrades and other functions seem non-existent. It seems like Samsung is banking on the dual camera as their reason to purchase this. I'm satisfied with even my Note 5 camera and my girlfriend has the S8 plus and the pictures are amazing. I don't understand what big of a difference a dual camera will make. A lot of people are calling for the note series to go away, but I am a huge note fan and I love my built-in stylus. I use it for a lot. The Note 5 has been the best phone that I have ever owned, the only knock I have on it is the battery life, not being water resistant, and lack of the ability to expand storage. When I first heard about the 8th I was giddy with excitement, knowing that they had to create something amazing after the Note 7. The more and more I heard about it the more and more I became disappointed. I know we are about a month away for the official unveiling and people are saying there may be big changes. But I don't believe that I think the updates that we have been getting on this phone and the renders are very accurate. I know they were when the S8 were talked about. So in this post I'm asking people why I should switch to the Note 8, what are its advantages and features that warrants this expensive purchase. I love getting new phones at the end of my 2 year agreement but this is the first time do not think I will unless big things happen. Convince me guys!

Re: Disappointed as hell and keeping my Note 5

I am not a Note fan, have the S8+ and no need for the stylus, but I have to agree with you. I think the Note 8 is a disappointment for those, like you, who were looking forward to it.
