Anyone else disappointed in the stock sounds and ringtones?

Anyone else disappointed in the stock sounds and tones on the Nexus? I dunno, I'm mainly looking for a "professional" sounding set of sounds even though I keep it on vibrate most of the time anyway. Sure, I copied over some of the custom ringtones I've had on my phones the past few years for specific contacts, but going through the list of stock ringtones and notification sounds they all kinda suck. Almost every one is some futuristic new-agey sounding thing that I'd never want to use for anything. It seemed like there is maybe 1 or 2 sounds in each that would be reasonable for just sounding like a "phone" sound. I contrast this with what sounded like a fairly professional sounding profile on my wife's iPhone.

Are there any recommendations for better sound themes, or more professional sounding basic ringers or notification sounds that are available, without any spam? Or do I have to track down mp3s from various other phone manufacturers to put together my own profile? Any tips? Thanks,

Well I have all of my ringtones from my BlackBerry Storm. I could probably put them up on my website if people would like them. It would have to wait until after 4:00pm Central though.

I'd appreciate that if you could. There are very few "normal" ringtones that sound like phones on the GNEX.

I had a hard time with some of the ringtones from the app store. you had to download a program to search the ringtones and it kept crashing.

I agree 100%. Maybe I'm too old to appreciate all the weird and annoying ring tones.BB had a great variety.

I always use custom sounds anyway, most from classic video games. Galaga has been my ringtone for as long as I've owned a smartphone.

My notifications are soundbites from Super Mario Bros, and Earthbound.

I use audiko to download new ringtones, they seem to have a good variety if you wanna give it a shot

R2D2 has been my text message alert sound forever. Super professional? No, but not near as annoying as that techno crap most modern phones have as choices. What is this? Europe. :) I kid, I kid.

Have you tried system dumps from others phones? You can download the ringtones and notification sounds and just add the ones you like to your Ringtones or Notifications folder on your phone. I have a lot of normal ringtones from there. I seldom find a song that sounds good as a ringtone.

I was also disappointed with the ringtones and notification sounds on the GN, but I transferred some of my ringtones that I made from my blackberry over to the GN and couldn't be happier. There are a few apps on the market that you can download ringtones or if you are seeking specific blackberry ringtones, I am sure a quick google search will bring up the results you are looking for.

I'm the odd one out. I actually love the default ring tone. I haven't even bothered to check the others since getting the phone. I can't describe it but I like hearing it.

I don't think I ever used a stock RT, or notification on my android. I either make my own RTs from my songs or dl from Zedge (great app, hilarious RTs and notification sounds).

Instead of starting new thread, does anyone know why i cannot get audible selection sounds to work or lock screen sound?? I have tried everything, i am on stock vzw lte version 4.0.2. Any suggestions?

yeah i was pretty pissed when i noticed they all sucked. Usually when i get a new phone the first thing i do is change the most likely stupid ringtone they have set by default to a normal sounding one. Luckly the pyxis ringtone on the gnex sounds like a standard phone which i like, but i had to pull the "missed it"/ canopus notification from my droid x.

For stock ringtone I like Orion. For stock notification I like Procyon, second would be Polaris and last would be Ceti Alpha.

Whatever I get, I don't want to hear part of some popular song as a ringtone. I hear these out in public and find it annoying.

All of the notifications, ringtones and sounds on my phone are My Little Pony ones.

Now, if that was stock, THEN I'd think you guys had a basis to complain :D

So, I have downloaded some alarm ringtones but can't seem to get the stock clock app to recognize them. Hmm. my tones are in the sdcard directory and stock clock app doesn't see them. Third party alarm clock sees them just fine. I guess I now have a good reason to root so I can drop them in the /system/media/audio/alarms folder. I think you can't drop stuff in there unless you are rooted. Is this correct?
