First off, I love my DI! I had a Moto Droid from release, untill DI release. The Vehicle integration aspect of the Moto Droid was awesome! Dock it, it auto went to car dock app, ran headphone in to aux in in our work vans, and had navigation, handsfree phone, and streaming audio. Of course I can do all this with my DI, but its ALOT more clumsy! No auto car panel with the dock (even though that option is listed in car panels settings...makes no sense) I wish car panel would be listed in the notification bar, like car dock was on my moto droid. Made it quick and easy to switch between apps. When I hook up my line out cable, i always have to plugg it in a few times so it sees it as headphones, and not a headset (u get no 2 way communication on a call if it see's it as a headset) The DI is such a bad a$$ phone, I don't understand why they skipped over these simple details? Anyone else a little frustrated about this? Well anywho, later guys......

I say give it time. There will be some answer to this eventually. The car panel is weak though, and like the footprints thing, leave it off and put in something useful.

grab the latest google nav update, put the nav icon on your home screen, press it when you're in the car dock. problem solved

That doesn't even qualify as a work-around. The phone is supposed to have a magnetic sensor like the Motorola Droid and Blackberries where it detects when its in a holster/car dock and responds accordingly. Running the app you want after docking it does not fix this missing functionality.

This could be a problem with the dock you have. Which one is it? Does it have a magnet in it to tell the phone its in the dock? It it seating firmly? The only way to figure this out for sure is to find someone that it works perfectly for and figure out what the difference is.

Does anyone have a fully functioning dock? i.e. Phone detects it is docked and launches Car Dock?

I would recommend the Motorola T505 if you want something that's a little easier to get set up, but since you have an aux in on your car (I don't) you probably don't need it.

who ever said it was supposed to have a magnetic sensor? i've been following the incredible since well before launch and ive never come across such a promise. so you're disappointed with something that isnt there that YOU wanted?

maybe i'm missing the point. you want to put the phone in the car dock and have it launch the car panel app? that's it?

i put my phone in the car dock and press the car panel button. it does the EXACT same thing in the exact same timeframe. actually i can do you one better...i can hit the car dock button AS i'm putting the phone in the dock. that way i can have it nice and ready once i get it in the dock...

forgive me, but you're claiming disappointment on what amounts to a "feature" that can quite easily be replicated.

EDIT: also, if you're morally opposed to pressing the car panel app icon on your own, aren't there apps such as locale that can replicate what you want? set it to launch the car panel when the phone is placed horizontally and you're in the car?

The phone has a magnetometer, per sensor test apps. I never said it didn't have these features, just that they are more clumsilly implemented on the DI than the Moto Droid. I just got spoiled to that aspect of the Moto Droid I suppose.

I agree with you. HTC also botched up the clock app by not allowing for landscape functionality. Unless I am missing a setting.

It will go into lanscape if u hit the night button within the Clock app, but unfortunatlly the main app does not....

I got rid of the car dock app on my droid (rooted) I found it annoying that it went in to the car mode.

On the other had the slowness in getting a car mount, or pretty much all the accesories is pretty frustrating.

the incredible is def supposed to have a magnet in it to tell when it is docked. why would it not have it? basically every other high end phone does.

take a magnet to the back of your incredible - see if you can trick it in to modes

you can do that with the Moto Droid

I've never seen anything in the documentation that states that the Incredible has magnets etc to know when it's in the docks - even the documentation about the Car Dock states that it doesn't put the phone automatically in to car dock mode

How can you say you're disappointed when no car docks that support the Incredible are out yet? If there are any non-generic car docks out please enlighten me I need one!

The HTC/Verizon (The only Non-Generic one) Car dock is available at alot of corperate stores now! Part Number VZW6300MNT.

Ok guys, here is what I did to make it a lot less clumsy. I downloaded 3 apps from the market. Car Dock V2, Blue Dock, and dialer one. Car Dock V2 replaces Car Panel. It gives u 5 screens to scrowl through, 6 shortcuts per screen. You can put whatever you want here. It also rotates to landscape. The dialer one app i put in car dock v2 because it rotates to landscape as well unlike the stock dialer. The blue Dock manually initiates car dock mode, so I put a shortcut for this on my main android screen(it comes with 2 shortcuts, force car dock on, and force car dock off, and bluetooth can auto initiate cardock). I put the Force car dock off shortcut on 1 page in car dock v2 so I can shut off car dock mode. This setup actually works very well! I get everything in landscape this way, and no matter what program ur in with car dock on, the main home button on the phone takes you directlly to the car dock interface.

Interesting I need to go look at it. I want something that's custom fit for it not one of those squeeze deals.

I would like a car dock that has a built in micro usb plug for charging....i wonder if they will make something like that..

Hence the reason I'm waiting to see what ProClip comes out with. Normally they always have the basic kit and the charging all in one kit.

I got the VZW Car Dock and it comes with two pieces: the dock itself and a beltclip for the phone. You then put the beltclip on the dock and that's how it hooks up, literally.

That being said, it's not that bad of a setup and there is a hole open to allow it to charge. So I bought the car charger and now anytime I use it as a GPS I have it charging since GPS is such a battery hog.
