Anyone else eager to LAUGH at what apple has to offer Sept 12th?

Which is one of the pros for the iPhone and downfalls of android. So many phones to keep track of a lot of companies don't bother with upgrading to the newest os. Or they are 8 months late doing it.I got ICS maybe 6 months late on the razr? And not any sooner on the note.

Some people don't care though. Half the people here with an Evo 3D didn't care if we ever got ICS or not (I was one of them). We got it, but we wouldn't have thrown out our phones for such a small deal like that.

Thank you, thank you and thank you!! More people need to do this!!

gotta admit my s3 is 1st phone i didnt research.. my fiance knows im an android geek and that i liked the s2 and gnex so she did well and bought me something we cant afford lol as soon as it was available as a surprise. i am in love with it though <3

global s3, UK. Ask me anything and ill reply even if its just an intelligent (or crazy) guess ;)

Well..... you don't need to do much research to know that the SGS3 is a good phone! ;)

.....Otherwise, do your research people!!

yup! read reviews of apps (for anyone who doesnt know, on play store you can read reviews only from people with your own device)
read reviews on products from amazon, etc...
the internet is a great thing for consumers :)

i hadnt looked into the s3 before Clair bought me it because it would just have gave me phone envy (i had been rocking a Sony Experia Arc S which got stolen so i was using a galaxy europa [horrible little phone]) but when i she told me she had ordered it for me, i was happily gobsmacked by the specs and a bit pissed off that she'd ordered a white one until i realised the only choice was white or blue lol :)

Doing your homework on a device is critical. I have always been happy with my Android phone because I did the research. It's like shopping for a new stereo. There is amazing tech and cheap tech. If you buy something without doing the research then shame on you. Some people are okay with a cheap stereo. This is no different with some phone users. I have only had 2 android phones. The HTC desire which was the first Nexus one phone and then I got the SGS2 which I still have. Once the new nexus phone is released I will probably get that so I can get the updates faster. The SGS3 is a great phone too, but I am happy with my phone for now. No regrets.

I had this problem with my first android phone. So far, I'm on my 3rd..the first android phone was an LG Optimus S. I'm not going to say it was a bad choice, but it didn't fulfill the android hunger I had. And once Sprint rolled out the ICS update for that phone, it REALLY got poor, because of that update. In fact, Sprint retracted the update, and they put rollback(Froyo) instructions on the Sprint community forums for users, along with the zip of the android ROM. Alternatively, people could walk into a Sprint store and have the rollback done within a few minutes of waiting. I've never known of this happening with another phone, but I don't keep up with phones that I don't own either (or plan to own).

Once I learned that hard lesson, I found how essential it is to research the device I plan to buy...getting a phone on the day of contract renewal is great...it's like a kid getting a new toy - oooh ooh can't wait to play with that toy! But the problems that arise are often enough to make you regret ever doing it, like the ones I faced with the Optimus S.

Funky, how does one do this? I'm at work with my phone off so I can't peruse the market at the moment but please let me know how we can sort reviews by phone type. Is it simply in the drop down menu for "Most helpful" and all that?

to the right of the "most helpful first" theres the "options" pull down with these options:

...grr its not letting me upload screenshot but you can check "for my device only" and "for this version only" ;)

I don't understand either why some people see it as a deal-breaker because "ip5 has the latest s/w and S3 doesn't"...it's a so-what point..you buy a phone with software pre-installed, and if you get updates, then yay. How many updates did we get on Motoral Startacs or Nokia 3550s? Out the box, the Android offers more flexibility than iOS, not to mention customizations, and won't even get into custom ROMs. It doesn't seem exactly fair to say that when iOS is playing catch-up and introducing "revolutionary" things that have already been on phones for a couple years now.

Noticed that Mastercard opened the Paypass UI, so the non-NFC iPhone 5 should really be criticized heavily now, as this should give NFC the push it needs in the marketplace, just in time for Christmas too...critics are already giving it fits because something as simple as NFC was left out, and now a key player has gotten behind the system and will obviously put NFC into play in bigger ways...I bet VISA won't be far behind.

So true on the Startac example and that is huge news on the Mastercard UI. We don't have much NFC in Canada yet but it makes no sense the iPhone left it out.

Then by your own definition, the iPhone 5 is not a marginal improvement. Everything on it is improved over the last version.

processor, minor improvement
camera, the same
os, marginal
screen, improved, but still way behind in size
nfc?
removable battery?
width and weight? not much of a change there
show me a significant improvement

Processor is a major upgrade. Change of architecture better battery smaller chip faster processor by far. Camera is the same sensor but better glass/lowlight. Screen is personal preference. Removable battery u could get a mophie if needed. But my 4s when I had blew every android I've had out of the water in battery.
