Anyone else eager to LAUGH at what apple has to offer Sept 12th?

Yep, had my first iPhone 5 come in today - from an attorney that was dying to get an S3 to upgrade from his iPhone 4 since his buddy got one and after messing with it he loved it. He's kind of a tech savvy user, younger guy. But, since the firm won't yet support Android he was forced to go with the iPhone. He called me to say he's underwhelmed with the IP5. It's only a little thinner, it's lighter, and only a little longer. He also commented how the back feels cheap - if you tap it it does feel a bit hollow'ish. Overall, after working with it I was just like, "Ok, it's just a little longer and lighter, that's it. The screen went from a beautiful color calibrated accurate display to a color saturated display not unlike that of our S3. I got used to the S3 but I honestly prefer balanced correct color to over-saturated screens.

And maps, I showed a number of people just how bad it is - just awful.

Rev.

shame you dont have the "screen mode" option on the gt-i9300 mate :(
think you'd love "natural" setting. maybe youll get it with JB?

global s3, UK. Ask me anything and ill reply even if its just an intelligent (or stupid) guess ;)

Siri speed I based on network coverage. So that really wasn't a test. Did you have the same cell coverage? Or same wifi? Siri has been loaded since iPhone 5 release. It'll speed up once people stop playing with Siri. It always does. How many people loading up the google now servers right now.

Have you seen all the other tests?
Plus, it doesn't matter if Siri's slow because of the servers. It's still slow.

And dumb. My co-worker over the summer tried to show it off to us and it set her location to somewhere in the US when we live in Canada. >_>

theres some really funny vids of Scotsmen tryin to use siri lol.
one of them is on a total apple fanboy channel as well.. "theunit3" or "unit3" or something. the dude even admits that google voice search is more accurate.
in scotland we even have problems with call centres based in england with the voice recognition menus, we end up shouting at them in a posh english accent lol.
voice recognition will never be perfected for a nation of 6million with about 100 different accents from area to area :)
glad i have fast thumbs ;)

I messed around with my 3VO's voice command app for 5 minutes for giggles but I've never actually used it. I prefer using my thumbs as well.

I don't need to see tests. I have a 4S and a 5. I just sold a SG3 and returned a One X. Siri works fine for me.

Once I asked Siri on an iPhone 5 at the Apple store "What's better: iPhone or Android?". Siri understood me perfectly and replied: "Most voice assistance prefer iPhone." I replied, "Google Now prefers Android" and Siri interpreted that as "Google pornographers Android". Another time, my friend's brother said a perfectly normal and coherent sentence and Siri started spewing out random words including a swear word. Oh, Siri, you have so much to learn about grammar and etiquette.

Same, I don't see what all the hype is about Siri. One time I asked it for the lyrics for Hotel California, and it started looking for hotels named California lyrics. :banghead:

Well it's the only semi-original thing Apple has done since they released the first iPhone.

Siri only responds with profanity if settings are messed with. (like changing the users name)

I love angry Scots. My pals dad is hardcore Scottish. I absolutely love it when he gets drunk and starts yelling at the people on TV. It's absolutely hilarious, incredibly profane and completely unintelligible.

Actually, I think Siri thought he himself said those random words.

I think most truly useful voice commands are really only good when you are by yourself. Talking to your phone in public makes you look like a book.

I use it primarily for the following commands and rarely have a need to have it schedule appointments etc.

1. Making calls to specific contacts via bluetooth in my car. Ie: Call John Smith on mobile.

2. Getting directions using the popular Google maps. Some of you may have tried it. Lol. Ie: navigate to (store or restaurant or address). I find this particularly useful when trying to get to a restaurant I have not been to but know the general area. I just ask for directions when I get close.

3. Direct calls to companies or retailers not in my contacts. This again is incredibly accurate and fast on Android. I would like to hear from iOS6 users if this type of thing is now available with Siri. Can you ask her to call the Best Western hotel and will it search and find the closest location to you then dial the number?

What are some alternative voice assistants? S-voice is pretty crappy. Tried to use it yesterday to find city hall that I had to go to in my town, took forever and didn't find it anyway. I just put Vlingo on as I've heard it's pretty good.

Google voice is the best from what I've read and heard. You can always try that. I will try it myself once I get around to it, eventually, lol!

Yes to your #3 but it has an extra step. For example, you say "Siri where's the nearest Best Buy?" She gives you some locations which are arranged by distance. She then asks if you would like to call, navigate to, or cancel request. You tell her which location to call. There may be another way. I'll try later v
