Anyone else feel cheated? Well a little...

verizon really should have just called the moto droid the "Droid *insert name here*" so there wouldn't be all this confusion. Droid as a brand just pretty much means high end android smartphones on Verizon. thats why you dont see stuff like the ally getting Droid branding.

Droid Milestone like the GSM version ;-)

lol i used both this and an evo and i prefer the incredible only because its not too big not too small

but none on sprint

so i gotta hang on with my pixi

Personally, I think the Motorola Droid should have been named the "Droid Prime" or something like that. It would have helped lessen the confusion.

Oh gawd then Verizon would have deals being made with Lucas Arts for the Droid name and Universal for the Prime name. I like the naming convention as it separates the phones from the lower tear Android phones. If anything they should have gave the Moto Droid another name, but they probably didn't foresee so far into the future and expected Moto Droid 2/3 etc. Who knows.

Jawbone uses Prime and also when the LG Voyager was out it was noted as being trademarked from Plantronics.
I wish the Droid Incredible was just called the Incredible.

Is that a droid?
No it is an HTC Incredible but runs android.
Oh so it's still a droid?

Typical convo I have :)

Well the manufacturer obviously didn't care much for the "Droid" name because it was nowhere on the box it arrived in, or in the paperwork that goes with it. The only place I've seen in called a Droid Incredible is on forums and the Verizon site/commercials.

Most people, including me, call anything running android a droid. So I think it's just natural to alot of people to refer to all of them as "a droid", instead of calling it the Incredible. Because after all who wants to spill that out everytime you talk about your phone, it's just easier to say, "my droid" or "my inc" instead of "my htc droid incredible" lol.

So depending on who you talk to Verizon or HTC or the Users it's called something different!

HTC lists it on their site as the Droid Incredible.
Droid is like calling all devices BB now and puts money into that No talent *** clown, Mr. Lucas.

I completely agree with you on your post. If they were going to continue with the Droid branding, then they should have never just left the MotoDroid as "Droid." This makes things very confusing for people new to Android devices/OS as now, they have the Moto Droid, Droid Eris, Droid Incredible, and Android the OS.

Thanks, I find it annoying when I tell people I have a Droid and they are like "I thought it had a keyboard" or whatever.

Verizon will have to change their advertising shortly, though. They will probably continue with "Droid Does" but they will have to focus on other devices. That, or they are just waiting for the moto Droid 2 and will launch a similarly huge advertising push at the end of the year for it. I, for one, would like to see more than web ads for the Inc as it and the Evo are the best smartphones on the market IMO.

I agree with you. If I knew nothing about Android phones, which I didn't up until about a two months ago, and provider consideration was out of the question, I would be trying to figure out if I wanted a Moto Droid, an Incredible, or an EVO.

These are the best phones on the market if you are looking at Android devices, and in my opinion they are the best phones period, even when looking at iPhones etc. I think the machine behind Google the hardware and carrier partners are still trying to figure out the right way to market everything. In the end the user install base is what makes the phone popular not the commercials in my case. Because when I was trying to decide if I wanted the Incredible of the Droid I took my personal wants into account then hit up the internet looking at user review and unboxings and lurked around on forums to figure out which phone I thought would fit my bill.

The only people they aren't reaching are the mom and pops if you ask me. My mother got her first "smart" phone a couple months back after looking at my Blackberry. And she ended up with an LG phone because she thought it looked close enough. If she would have seen some of the Droid commercials it may have been different.

I guess word of mouth does more for the informed than looking at the marketing hype. I feel into the hype when I got my Storm and that will NEVER happen again I promise you that!

Android will continue to grow and ultimately domonate because Google/Android is adaptable, accepts open source, has many of its own products that play well together, has products that are dual use (personal & business), and has a plan (world domination, aka SkyNet). Apple screwed the pooch by signing an exclusive agreement with at&t and having near paranoid control over its product. RIM/BB screwed the pooch by resting on its laurels. Microsoft/Windows screwed the pooch by being so slow with updating and or adapting; The Catholic Church evolves quicker than Microsoft does.

As for Verizon's Driod marketing, I think it is great. It is eye catching and a great reprieve from the stupid chic iPhone marketing. I don't want a cool phone; I want an awesome and functional phone.

The only thing I feel cheated on is the fact that apparently the Droid 2 is coming with 8gb of internal memory and an 8gb preinstalled micro SD card.

Everyone seems to think this phone is a Verizon iPhone. Seems like people around here haven't heard all that much about it.

I get so sick of hearing about an Verizon "iPhone" or "iPhone Killer" the iPhone is so yesterday, and the new one that I thought would be exciting so wasn't. Thank Google for Android! As far as the Droid 2 coming with 8GB SD card, I'll believe it when I see it, and see it and a non-raised price!

It sounds about right to me considering the Droid came with a 16gb preinstalled micro sd. I guess we'll have to wait and see. :)

Life is much more fullfilling if you just enjoy what you have instead of complaining about what you don't have.

Cheated by not having "Droid" somewhere on the phone? Nah not really I could care less if the phone was called the HTC Droid Incredible Super Sunflower Bubble Gum Hop Along Gator Chaser........

I like the phone for what it offers, not for what it's called lol :)

i'd love to see that written across the bottom of the phone

HTC Incredible is (IMHO) a better name.

Marketing wise, DROID made sense.

I don't care about the name, though. Not a huge deal for me.

I'm cool with Verizon clumping all their advanced phones together as Droids. Creates a distinctive name that they can market to compete against names like "iPhone" and "BlackBerry".

And about the Motorola Droid, I like to compare it to the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The one that started it all.

Eh I would say the G1 would be the Nintendo, I like to think of the Moto Droid as the Sega Genesis. You know, big/powerful/black/ and ugly! (With that description it could be a porn star too though lol)

The only thing I wanted was the "droid" ringtone, which I was able to download. From Crackberry.com of all places. Lol.
