Anyone else feel ripped off by the NS4G?

After spending a week out of town visiting my old home town with NO SIGNAL whatsoever on my Sprint NS4G while my brother's Sprint Epic and my Sprint 3G Galaxy Tab both had beautiful 3G signal, I am **this** close to suggesting a class action lawsuit against Samsung/Google/Sprint regarding the absolutely defective NS4G. WTH??? I drop calls constantly, have horrific data connection, almost non-existant 3G (right in front of the Sprint tower in our town)! I am sooo freaking sick of it. And, now, I am trapped by this device for the 2 year contract because Sprint killed off Premier.

Anyone out there have any luck getting a replacement device from Sprint after the initial 30 days? And by replacement I mean another model/make device--NOT another defective Nexus. I have had this piece of unusable plastic since the end of August. I am really ready to pay the ETF and take my business to Verizon if Sprint does not do something to rectify the fact that the Nexus S4G is a total and absolute LEMON.

***Vent over***

Hmmm ever think you might have one that slipped by with hardware problems? Not like that would be the first time on any make or device....

As far as taking your business to Verizon... Happy trials.... Go pay more and have restrictions on data usage...

As far as Sprint replacing the device with something else, that would be at the discression of the individual store. Sprint policy through the TEP/Ausurion program is you must have 3 defective replacements and then the system gives you the option to get into another device of equal or lessor value of the device in question. (Trust me I know, I've already been down this road...)

I understand your frustrations but it really does sound like you have defective device and this isn't how a normal Nexus would perform.

I've not had any of those issues with my ns4g. Quite happy with the performance of mine in fact. It does sound like you are just experience defective hardware.

Well, I am glad that you all have had no issues with your Nexus S4Gs. However, I doubt that it is a hardware issue since I am faaar from alone in having these issues. One need only look to these boards to see that there is a problem. And, from what I recall, Sprint/Google/Samsung even investigated what might be causing the issues several months ago. There seems to be a HUGE disparity between how the device works in 3G vs 4G markets. Sprint does not have 4G rolled out in this area--and not that I care because it is a battery suck where it does actually work. However, the device seems to have such a crap radio that it cannot keep a signal for more than a few minutes at a pop. Believe me, as a Sprint customer for the past 17 years, I really would prefer to stay with them. But, I am not willing to do so at the expense of connectivity. I need my phone to work. This device is a total disappointment. There is no way so many people can be complaining about the same issues and it be just a sporadic issue among select devices. It is probably more accurate to state that the devices that actually *do* work as advertised are the anomoly here. And, I am fed up with everyone making excuses for the craptastic signal that seems to be plaguing these devices. Something is wrong with the Nexus S--period.

I don't think anyone is making excuses, people are just giving their experience.

A class action lawsuit?

Really?? Get a different freakin phone....its that simple. After you've been thru so many Sprint will change you into a different model of comparable value. A class action lawsuit though?

You've obviously got a defective phone.

Yeah, okay, that was a bit extreme, I'll admit. However, it's in response to this phone driving me batty. I don't think that I am the only one having problems--so to say that I "obviously have a defective device" is dismissive. The problem is bigger than just my phone. And if a company can tie us to a device for two years then, I am sorry, I think that they should be *required* to sell us devices that will work as advertised. The Nexus phones are NOT working as advertised and that has been well documented on this board and others. And, I did not mean anyone above making excuses for the phone--I mean in general. When you read a number of threads on the issues and there is always some cohort of fanboys who try to make the people who are having the issues seem like idiots. At this point, it is not us--it is the device.

You talk about class actions.
You talk about getting a different model phone.
You talk about jumping ship to Verizon.

It sounds like you blindly bought a NS4G and then had buyers remorse and want the latest and greatest device on the horizon.

You haven't even made the effort to rule out having a defective NS4G by swapping for a new one. Instead, you're jumping directly to the conclusion that it's some widespread common failure and Samsung, Sprint and Google are co conspirators in the whole thing.

I'd suggest you take some rational steps towards resolving your issue first before composing rants such as these on the board.

Have you at least had Sprint swap the phone out for another ns4g?

Yes. When my first NS4G had a connectivity issue after a week. They gave me a brand new one. This one seemed to be doing better, but lately it is rebooting for no known reason, it drops calls/won't connect to emails/needs to be rebooted when switching from wifi to 3G (gets stuck for lack of a better word). The last time I visited this same house in my hometown, the phone worked sporadically. Now, I went back and it did not connect for the entire week! I got signal once for about 5 seconds when we were driving right past a cell tower. Also, the phone inexplicably will switch to roaming or the dreaded "x" when inside my house from time to time. We have excellent Sprint coverage in this area. I had a Palm Pre that never had these issues-- not ever.

First: Don't presume to tell me where to post or what to say/think. Who the heck are you? The mayor? Second: I HAVE returned the phone before, so don't presume to know what my history with the device has been. Third: I researched the phone for a month before buying it and I handled a who legion of other devices before making my choice, so pahleeze, give me a break with your "you made a stupid purchasing decision" attitude. Fourth: I never claimed that Sprint/Google/Samsung are conspirators in anything. However, I think that they are responsible for making sure that their products work as adverstised. Believe me, I am used to dealing with a device that has weird quirks and glitches (I came from a launch day Sprint Palm Pre) and I kept that device for two years and hacked the bajeezus out of it. That was fun. This is NOT fun. Dealing with no signal is a fun killer. Maybe because your Nexus works perfectly you feel as though I must be imagining the issues or making a bigger deal out of the problems than you think that I should. But, as I am NOT the only one having the issues, I think that YOU should educate yourself on the problems before trying to shut down a person who is having a valid problem with the device. If you don't like my use of prose, feel free to ignore me. Peace.

Mine does the same thing, it 'gets stuck' too.
When yours gets stuck, does it still receive/make calls and txts, just no data?
That is what happens to mine.

Yeah, mine is no data. It is so frustrating. I have tried so hard to love this phone. Heck, I *want* to love it. But this is getting to be a bit much now.

Yep, the only fix I found was to reboot it.
Samsung/Google just don't test their software very much, they sit in a lab and don't step out into the real world.
The 4G WiMax is next to useless, unless I'm sat outside. I hardly ever enable 4G, it makes it get stuck more.
The Wifi reception is the worst on any device I have ever used.

Problem with that is that I find myself having to reboot the sucker about 15 times a day. It's ridiculous. I have also had issues with getting voicemail lately, but that might not be the phone. I had been holding out hope that ICS might fix the signal issues, but when the last update that was supposed to fix the signal issues did NOT fix them, I began to lose hope. Now, after last week, I have lost all faith in the device. Thank GOD I had my Galaxy Tab with me or I would have been so up the creek without a paddle.

I have tried many Android phones, and they all have problems, each one is different, different problems.
I have found the Nexus 4G to be useable for the most part, as most other phones have terrible interfaces which introduce bugs of their own.

The wifi -> EVDO data stuck bug sucks, easy to reproduce.
I have seen the same bug on the LG Optimus S, happens less often.

Good to know. I am an Android newbie. When my Nexus works, I love it, it just does not work often enough for me to justify keeping it. I have another line w/Sprint, which is my DD's phone and it is out of the contract date. I am going to get her her first smartphone for X-mas. She wants an iPhone (not my taste, but whatever). I might try to leverage that contract with the Sprint store to see if I can get a different phone at this point. I am going overseas in a few months so maybe one of the world phones would be more useful. At any rate, I need to have something done about my Nexus. I can't get any work done when travelling and can barely connect when I am in my own home and town. It makes no sense to keep this device.

As happens in many cases are you sure it's not a rogue app. People tend to load up these phones with tons of "crapware"

Remove everything you have installed, use it for awhile then install you old apps back one at a time

Very true.... Sometimes the answer/problem/solution is right there in front of you all day long and we don't even realize it..... Could be your favorite little app that is causing some freaky phone issues...
