Anyone else feel ripped off by the NS4G?

I came from the worst phone in the world, the Samsung Moment so even a bag of crap would have been better. I think the Nexus S is a great phone and my reception troubles were fixed with the update we got a while ago.

I don't feel ripped off. I just got the Nexus phone a couple of weeks and it came with 2.3.7. I could see you having issues when they were first release. At the moment I have more cons then pros for the nexus.
Cons-
- to slippery (fixed by buying zagg protector)
-4g not great when moving or in the car
-MS active sync does not work(hopefully Google fixes this and yes its a documented issue with Google)
-power button should have been placed somewhere else. To many times have I pressed power button while watching Netflix or when showing pics or just taking pics.
-tether and hotspots disabled. Even though you still have the option.
- home screen becomes unresponsive news to reboot

Pros -
Love everything else about it. Especially Google voice now that's pure awesomeness.

Been using a blackberry for over 6 years. I just had to get familiar with touchpad keyboard.
Okay time to get off the toilet.

Yeah, I know. It was when my phone was still new. Like an idiot I "waited" for the update past my return period because the reps at the store told me it would fix the signal issues. It has not. It seemed somewhat more stable at first, but now is just utterly ridiculous.

Went to store today. No luck there. Just a rude employee who refused to even look at my account. OMG. I am sooo really leaning toward Verizon. I can't get over how nasty this rep was and would not give me regional manager's contact info either. Literally refused. So, I got it anyway of the Internets. Go figure? I will be calling about this rep because even if they cannot fix my phone's issue, they should at least be polite. They are polite at Verizon.

I have had more negative experiences with Verizon than sprint :p

Speaking from experience, Sprint's reps can get pretty down right rude... Then again any CS reps can... Take make a long story short I originally came in with a defective display on my Epic 4g. Three broken out of the box refurbs later in a 2 week period (I'm not kidding) I finally jumped on the phone for a second round with Sprint higher ups. My first go around didn't go good and I went as high as a manager in the retentions & customer service department. She was down right rude, we got into a shouting match on the phone and she basically told me to deal with it or take my business else where...

Anyways after my 3rd refurb replacement went bad after activating it, I finally said enough and got back on the phone and found a lady that was willing to play ball. She was polite, she said we can't offer you a new device for something that is 9 months old but the system automatically after 3 refurbs gives the option of a device exchange to a different model of equal or lesser value. At the time it was the Evo Shift, Nexus S 4G & the Kyocera or a 4th shot at another Epic 4g.

Initial complaint Epic 4g (inoperative display)
#1 Refurb, (2 days later) Epic 4g came with non working WIFI and broken sdcard.
#2 Refurb, (2 days later) Epic 4g was activated and started doing boot loops right there in the store... Couldn't be resolved with factory resets, etc..
#3 Refurb (5 days later due to weekend) came with a broken mic.. Smartphone worked great, could receive phone calls but nobody could here me talk...
#4 Refurb/Device Exchange (3 days later) Nexus S 4G... Worked great and still going 3 plus months later....

Bottom line, Asurion which Sprint and other carriers use for their warranty/replacement service program stated after all this that their devices are heavily tested and go through many steps of testing before being released back out into circulation. They claim I just had bad luck receiving so many problems at the same location, one after another...

Knowing that the Epic 4g was getting old and running out of time for future updates I wanted to get on something different and always wanted a Nexus S 4G so I decided to go that route. It was painless, no charges to me and even though it was a refurbed NS4G I was given because this all happens through TEP/Asurion and not Sprint themselves, I have been very lucky and received a fully functional and well working NS4G.

In the end I did get Sprint to credit me for 2 weeks of interrupted service while I was going from one bad refurb to another. I did learn a lesson in CS and cellular companies, it doesn't matter who or what company your working with bottom line they don't care... Really.. With millions of customers what is one here or one there and with all their catch 22's they have to cover their butts with early terminations they know no matter what they get their money out of you regardless of how the situation is resolved.

I wish you the best of luck if you go to Verizon or some other carrier but eventually one day you may face the same situation with CS. The amount of devices that are mass produced and the amount that make it through inspection and still "fail" to perform as expected happens on all makes and models and carriers... Its just the nature of the beast...

I often wonder... Do you get more when your nice or spewing piss and vinegar. I've never had a problem with any Sprint employee, hell my store fixed my old out of warranty phone for free 6 times

Well without going into massive detail again, I started the whole conversation very polite and the manager escalated it to a one sided joke of a phone call...

You want to read the whole story... I documented it day by day as it happened.....

http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g/111545-my-disappointing-call-sprint-resolved.html

Its a crazy story, the regulars that know me here couldn't believe what I was going through.. So trust me I know the feeling of being jerked around even when you try to do things the right way under their terms and agreements you sign. Until this situation I always had good service... Repairs done without problem, CS very nice on the phone but when this all came up it was 2 weeks of hell... I don't know if I hit Sprint at a time when things were shook up at the company and everyone was under some sort of "unknown" pressure but it didn't seem to matter who I talked with during this it was a horrible experience.

To the OP, best of luck... Hope things turn out better and you find a device & carrier that makes you happy.

Exactly, I'm not saying the OP went in with an attitude but if he went in even half ass cocked in person as he has been on here then I wouldn't have given him the time of day either. I worked for Sprint long ago (2000-2002) and have since worked for other companies including Apple before starting my own business where I deal with my customers daily. How I treat a customer is exactly how they treat me, come in with an attitude that you're the customer so no matter what you are right then I'll make it a point that you aren't right and can take your business elsewhere.

I have a hard time believing that the Sprint stores you people are going into with such bad service is real Sprint stores and not those other non corporate stores. I have two different Sprint stores near me and I have been to both, in each one of them they have bent over backwards to help both my wife and myself with our phone issues. She's had some on her Epic and I used to have some on my blackberry. However I haven't had any of the issues mentioned with my NS4G since the patch that fixed connectivity issues and I really didn't have much of a problem before that, it just increased my signal strength. I have 4G in my area and in my apartment on the bottom floor I can get a full 4G signal and have been able to since day 1. I also get wife signal all over my apartment as well as outside at my car, same goes for our business, the wifi signal hits me every where.

I honestly can't remember the last time that I've had to restart my Nexus for any reason, maybe it's the ROM I use as I did root it the day I bought it and have been running different ROMS since then, some weren't so good, but i've had my current one on it for 2 months now. No signal issues, no locking up, no battery pulls, great battery life...etc I'm 100% happy with my NS4G, sucks to hear that some aren't.

I wish all experiences with CS could be that good and easy but obviously it isn't... There is a such thing as much as many don't want to believe of CS reps that believe they have the power to be jerks and thats exactly the way they run the show... Hard to start things off on a good note with a gum smacking in your ear, fast talker that doesn't give you a word of input... I've delt with many of these before and its hard to have a good outcome.. Turn around and ask to speak with a manager or supervisor and right away your given the attitude of what was wrong with my "star" CS rep.... Again your off to a bad start...

Not all my experiences have gone like this but it does happen or else we would haven't blogs, threads, forums full of complaints everywhere in every walk of life involving customer service....

I use to be one of the people that claim their nexus had no connection issues, but I have come around to realizing the truth.... There is something majorly wrong with samsung radio hardware.

I have noticed 3g speeds deteriorate significantly near my house over the past few months. I can also tell when I travel, myphone loses data connection everywhere I go while others with sprint have no issues.

It's frustrating enough that I am actually considering jumping to Verizon, especially because they have lte that blankets my area.

The peoplewho claim theirphone has no issues might be tellingthr truth, but it's definitely a hardware issue with samsung devices. I believe the galaxy a 2 suffers from a similar issue. Sorry robust everyone's bubble.

I agree here...my phone in the DC area is actually pretty good. I have full 4G bars at my house too, so I can't complain. However, when 4G is down (frequently), my 3G speeds suffer. Sprint speeds have gone downhill in this area. It's funny, because when I travel to a small town in WV, the 3G is two times as fast there than it is in DC.

Also noticed my reception is spotty when I travel longer distances. When I was in Orlando, my service was HORRIBLE. Even at the airport. My phone was not even able to make calls, connect to data, dropped calls when I was able to...just couldn't understand it. There was another person next time me with an Evo, and he had full bars. Pretty weird.

Of course it can happen, but from my experience which is working as either a customer service rep, or being a team lead/supervisor of those CSR's for over 10 years for company's like Sprint, AOL, DirectTV, Apple (sadly I was laid off from each of those as they outsourced my job oversea's so you are most likely talking to some one in India getting paid $2.50/hr in which they spend $.50/hr on speech lessons so they don't sound like they are from India so they can make $3.00/hr so you aren't as unhappy when you call CS of an American company and talk to some one not in America!). Those are not star reps and they normally if not always have very short terms of employment with such companies. If you notice every time you make a CS call you are informed that your call could be recorded, in fact every call from every place I've worked was always recorded. They don't record it for anything you have to say, they record it to see what the reps are saying to you, then they go through and pull out a certain # of calls every week for each rep and listen to them. Being in customer service is a revolving door because the majority of people can't take people's and then get fired for getting an attitude with the customer. Are there supervisors out there that allow it to go on? Surely, but they won't be supervisors long as they also get judged on how many of their Reps got an acceptable resolution for the customer and if you aren't hitting a high % then you lose your job as well. With Apple they wanted you to have a minimum weekly of 96% of your customers 100% happy with you and the outcome, somewhat happy didn't work, it counted just the same as not happy at all.

That's 4 people out of 100 of the 100's you interact with daily that could have called up pissy to begin with that you weren't going to make happy no matter what. Guess what, the majority of people that are calling Customer Service are doing so because they aren't happy already.

I know this rant if off topic, I just have a lot of experience from the other side. You have to realize when you call CS that they are very limited on what they can do for you, some companies give you zero leeway to do anything for the customer, yet you are still supposed to turn them from unhappy customers to happy ones. Hell AOL wouldn't let you do anything for these upset customers and on top of that they wanted you to also sell something before they hung up on you. Others give you a little more leeway but none give you the full decision making you need. Same goes for Supervisors, most of those are just CS reps who've been there longer then the rest or in some cases the guy setting next to the CS person you were just talking to who has no more power then the first person you talked to, but to make you feel good about yourself and feel you got some where they let you talk to some one else. I know this when I call and talk to CS so I don't expect miracles. Speak with your wallet as that is truly all companies care about, if you truly aren't happy with Spring then go else where, if you truly are happy with Samsung products by some one else's. but don't expect any other ones to bend over backwards for you either.

@Angry Gimp... Agreed.. I'm happy with my service now.. I think I just hit a real bad rut in the road when my problems went down.. I fully understand things not going right always with the CS people but when you get a cocky manager then that straight out tells you to take your business elsewhere... I would love to see what her boss would of said if she heard that type of treatment to a customer... Oh well its over and moved on...

I hope for the good of others on this site they don't have to deal with the treatment that some people get for no reason. We spend far too much money to get jerked around especially when its not normally of the customers fault.

Thanks for you input.

I think a lot of people complaining about radio issues are just running into saturation on their local towers. The 3G speeds around me have decreased over the months as well but I have a feeling it has more to do with more users with smart phones coming online than our radios suddenly going bad.

And remember folks, bars don't give you the full story. I think our phones are probably more accurate displaying signal strength than others, where they just tack on a couple of extra bars to make signal strength look better than it really is. I'm often in areas where I only show one bar of strength but can make and receive calls and texts without any issues. In addition, I rarely have dropped phone calls. Fewer than with my Palm Pre and that was pretty seldom.

You know, I wouldn't know because I am always nice to CSR's. I feel like we should always extend the same level of respect and politeness to them that we would any other business colleague. And, I never have encountered a rude Sprint employee until now. Not in the nearly 20 years I've been with them.
