Anyone else kind of upset that Sony is taking longer than everyone else with the Lollipop update?

Hopefully the t-mobile version won't be too far behind

Earlier today, someone from Sony posted to Twitter that they're in the final stages of testing.

Lollipop sounds interesting, but I'll let other folks download it before I give Lollipop a try.

Don't you want to be a trailblazer and let us know if you run into problems first?lol

I'm in the 'Wait a little longer an get it right' camp, but even I'm getting properly fed up waiting now.

Not sure why everyone is in a rush to see their battery life go to ****. Hope I am wrong but it's a common complaint for other phones that got the update.

I end the day with about 40% battery after a decent amount of usage and stick it in charge over night so if that 40% comes at a cost of having lollipop then I'd be ok with it lol. That being said, I want it to be ready for us. At least with apple you get an exact date...

I agree, but think Sony should be more forthcoming with dates, or at least ball-park ones. Whilst it's important to get it right, it's equally important to keep it's current customers happy with their mobile division being in such dire straits.

I have heard complaints of battery life issues on Lollipop, but I also know 3 people who are running it and all 3 say there's little appreciable difference. I'm not saying that those posting aren't having issues, but people don't post on forums to say that their holiday accommodation was good - they only do so if it's been rubbish.

Could be worse...now they are flipflopping as to wether or not the Z-series will be the ONLY ones to get the update.

Sony has delayed this way too long. I understand they are trying to get it right, but they promised us a February release. Almost all other devices have released their lollipop versions last month and Sony still isn't ready

I cant' wait to switch to the Samsung Galaxy S6 when it comes out...Sony's mobile division is unreliable now

Yep. I get that Lollipop 5.0 wasn't perfect, but when has a brand new software release ever been so? That's always been the case so Sony should have never mentioned February unless it was sure that it could be met.

This doesn't bother me, other than the fact I like Sony phones...

When the Z4 appears, if it's better than the Z3, and can match/better it for battery life, I'd buy it. If a Z5 never materialised subsequently, Sony winding down their mobile division wouldn't effect my day-to-day use. The only caveat to that is that software updates may be slower, but then they're not exactly wowing us on that front at the moment anyway...

The S6 looks nice, but I have my doubts about the battery life. But then, that remains to be seen.

Coming from the Lumia 1020 and expecting a little more out of my Sony experience, my interest in the Lollipop update just went down to 0. No manual controls in camera settings is an absolute deal breaker for me after waiting for this long. I'll probably just skip this one. http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...-does-not-support-manual-camera-settings-raw/

" Update:*Just to clarify, what we are referring to here is the Android Lollipop Camera2 API, which Google included within the Lollipop update. If a manufacturer has opened these settings, it allows third-party applications to access the full range of manual camera settings. We fully expect that Sony will continue to provide manual settings within its own camera app such as White Balance, ISO etc."

As you can see from the update on the post the camera App will have manual settings. It just won't have that API for third party apps

Those "manual" settings are already in the camera app. Without the Camera2 API, there will be no access to manual focus, RAW image capture or shutter speed which means nothing is really changing.

Which version of it? Probably not 5.1. There's a couple of pretty major bugs in 5.01 and 5.02 that were resolved in 5.1 (memory leak and mishandling of quad core) so I'll remain on KK until 5.1 comes to Xperia

It's 5.0.2

After seeing what 5.0.2 did to a Nexus 7, you should all be hoping that Sony doesn't deploy it. If you're upset now, just wait until you get 5.0.2.

5.1 is what you want to wait for.

Sony owes you a good, working phone. Be thankful that you have that with 4.4.4.

Well... it's here. I'm using a D6603 (US) and have received the notification that version 23.1.A.0.690 is available to me. I attached my phone to my computer to use the Sony PC Companion software. Here is the notification information:

New phone/tablet software version available
(23.1.A.0.690)

What's new?

We’re excited to bring you Sony’s latest software experience, including Android 5.0 – Lollipop: sonymobile.com/lollipop : You'll need approximately 1.2 GB of free internal memory to upgrade and it may take around 20 minutes, but we promise it’s worth the wait. We’ve included:

- Sony’s latest software experience, with Android 5.0 - Lollipop
- A fresh look and feel, based on Google Material Design
- Intelligent lock screen notifications and customisable settings
- Multi-user profiles and guest mode
- Storage optimisation; move apps to SD card

I'll do a little more research, before installing it, but when, or if, I do, I'll let you know if I notice anything detrimental. Wish me luck.

Recommend to Update: Yes.

Since, you're here reading these forums, you're more technically savvy, and won't mind spending the time upgrading and learning the ways of Lollipop. This will be useful when the less-savvy people in your life complain about all the changes; you'll be their hero. {I showed the changes to my wife, and she was not happy. She's of the "if it aint broke..." mindset. She may never get updated. :-) }

I installed the update using the PC Companion, and it went smoothly. Upon reboot of the phone, there was a small error as I had to update the "Google Play services" app, and there was an error about logging in with my account. After updating the app, the rest of the update went smoothly. The whole process took about 45 minutes.

I have an unlocked Z3 on T-Mobile, that I bought from Sony (US). I've heard that the T-Mobile-branded version has not been pushed out, yet.

Is it worth it? Yes, if you like to think that you have a new phone. My biggest concern isn't really a big concern. For me, it seems that the battery life has decreased a little. I'll be more definitive after a few days. I'm having more screen time, now, as I learn the ways of 5.0.2.

They've taken away the 'Close All' button from the Recent Apps. I never realized how annoying it is to close all the apps individually. I read that someone made a 'close all' button extension, but not sure where to find that off the top of my head. Also, the Sony "What's New" option, when sliding from the bottom, has been removed.

I still don't see where Group Chat has been added. Maybe, that will be resolved in 5.1. Can someone else comment on that?

For the good...(from what I can recall)
There are far more options on the lock screen, and far more notification actions that can be made. All these are to make you more efficient. I like the new dialer layout.

The O/S appears to be faster, but that could just be a trick as there are more animations between transitions to keep my attention. In any case, I like it. Google Chrome tabs have been moved to the Recent Apps, but they can be returned to their normal position in the settings.

There are more options for vibrate and silent modes as you can set a timer to bring back it back to ring mode. I like the Priority mode that allows only certain contacts to call/text loudly. However, this feature only works in vibrate mode. I would like it to work in silent mode, too. When, I'm sleeping, I'd rather only be woken by my wife and kids, and not have all the other vibration notifications, too.

That's all I have for now. Good luck. Have fun.
