I've been an iPhone user since day 1. I waited patiently for the iPhone 5 and was extremely disappointed in the same-form-factor 4s when it was announced. I began researching Android phones and found the GN. I am now convinced that the GN is the phone for me. I love the large screen (for my 51 year old eyes) and I think that Android will give me something to "play with" for quite a long time.

Just wondering how many others are jumping from the iBandwagon to the GN?

i went from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS to Galaxy S2 and couldn't be happier. Actually, all the customization is a little overwhelming coming from the locked down iPhone.

edit: and by customization, i mean going from stock sms app to goSMS, stock launcher to Launcher pro, stock lock screen to widgetlocker, different skins on everything, new widgets, new keyboards, etc....and i haven't even scratched the surface since i haven't rooted and haven't even looked into different roms.

I am. I have only ever used the iPhone since switching from the ancient flip phones. I am VERY excited for the Gnex. The lack of an iPhone 5 announcment this year was the biggest tech dissapointment of all time. Apple blew it, and they didn't even update their iOS much, if at all. Boring. And the tiny screen is getting on my nerves. :p

I have been playing with the GSII at the Samsung Kisosk and ATT store for the last month or so, and have fallen compeltely in love with Android and Samsung. Friday can't come soon enough.

iPhone user right here looking forward to switching even though I'm happy with my iPhone 4.

Re: Anyone else moving over from the "dark side", aka iPhone, to

I've used the 3GS and now the 4S. Selling my 4S to buy the GN. Can't wait!

Don't worry about age and learning curve. It isn't as bad as it seams. I converted my parents about 6 months ago and they love their androids. They came from blackberry curves. My parents are 57 years old and aren't technology savvy people. I originally thought they would have trouble, but with a few hints here and there I got them using bluetooth in the car and transferring files from the computer (music mostly) in no time. The biggest hurdle was installing drivers, but that was just specific to the Epic 4G and I did it for my dad remotely using logmein.

Welcome to the darkside

Whoa hold on there a higher resolution means smaller text. The plus side of that is when u go into the browser u when u set your text to huge. U will have more realestate. But imo the images are smaller.
Something to consider....

Re: Anyone else moving over from the "dark side", aka iPhone, to

I'm also transferring from the 3GS to the Galaxy Nexus.

I seriously considered staying with AT&T and my grandfathered unlimited data, until I learned about their stupid and obnoxious data throttling policy. Basically, there is no such thing as unlimited data on AT&T anymore, for anyone. Because of that, I'd rather switch to Verizon's superior network in my area.

I've never owned an Android phone before, but I'm looking forward to the customization possibilities. Since I'm not interested in rooting or custom ROMs right away, I want a phone that gets prompt updates and doesn't have (much) bloatware on it. Knowing me, I'll probably end up installing CM at some point, but I'd rather learn how to use the damned thing first, before I start tinkering with it.

You guys will love Android. I came from iOS and never looked back.

Everyone should but they won't. The iBlinders they wear are pretty good.

That's true for some people, but maybe not as many as you think. There is a hardcore group who will buy anything and everything Apple puts out. But there are also a lot of people like me who bought iPhones a few years ago because it was the best option at the time, when the other smartphone OS's were either sucktastic or in their infancy. I didn't buy it because of the logo--in fact, I sort of did so in spite of it.

I've never owned any other Apple product besides my 3GS and have no particular loyalty to the brand. I've also become more sophisticated and demanding in what I look for in a smartphone now. For me, it's no longer just a "phone with benefits," but my primary computing device. My PC is jealous. :) But that means I need more than what iOS offers.

And if that's true of me, I'm certain it's true for many others. I'm not a bleeding edge kind of guy or particularly tech savvy anymore.

Haha! Alright Apple folks, it's time to Occupy Android!

Re: Anyone else moving over from the "dark side", aka iPhone, to

Woo hoo just sold my iPhone for $700 on eBay! That ought to cover the cost of my off-contract purchase. Giddyup!

Except the GNex still has a lower pixels per inch than the iPhone so doesn't that actually mean the text/images will be a little bigger?

Re: Anyone else moving over from the "dark side", aka iPhone, to

i'm on a jailbroken and tweaked 3GS, and i've customized it to its limit long ago. the hardware barely keeps up now. no real integration of google, and i'm not a mac or itunes user at all, so this whole thing has been an exercise in workarounds. and i'm pretty damn good at workarounds at this point.

until Friday(?):D

I don't think it really even matters whether people are Mac users or not. I am a mac user, but iCloud sucks. It wasn't working and screwed up all my contacts. Plus, I don't need every picture I take on my phone to automatically sync to my computer. What's the point of that?

I'm going all in on android. I think it's going to suit me much better. After all, I use most of Google's services much more than I do Apple (I use Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps, etc.). I just prefer the Mac interface to Windows.

Same here. I've always been a techie when it comes to new devices. Bought the first iPhone on contract for 600 the week of release and have since switched to mostly all Mac computers. Wanted to switch to android when the Nexus one first came out but didn't want to switch to T-Mobile. Had to change to Verizon because of a move and a lack of service from any other provider, and I haven't looked back. Yeah I still miss a few thing, but there are very few things now (built in timer not a 3rd party one from the market is the biggest thing I want).

I like to tinker and the android is perfect if you really want to get the most out of a phone. Jailbreaking was good but nothing compared to rooting and the multitude of apps. Even things as simple as having the ability to choose my keyboard is awesome. I wouldn't go back to iPhone now because I hate the keyboard. That's just me though.

Everyone has there reasons for liking android, but if you take the time to learn how to use it, even if you don't root it is an amazing experience.
