Anyone else order a Z3C from Sony USA site?

My box says SI 1288-3890.4 2G/3G/LTE which is different from Bnjf's. There is definitely something different but I can't figure out what it is just yet because my "About Phone" has all the same exact information as him. They should be identical.

Try googling 1288-3890 and you get some interesting links. 1290-0539 shows completely different results.

I read somewhere that there is also a Latin American version. Wonder if that's what I have here? Was sold through techno trading house, Amazon and Delta. Anyone know? Not sure but I think I'd still want the definite USA version if this is what I bought from B&H. So confused.

Until we see the box and software for a version shipped directly from sony.com, we won't know. My bets are that the B&H version is not the same as the Sony.com version...

Maybe. But if there is no change in software or hardware..I guess wouldn't care.
Meaning just a different build number

B&H told me it was the same version.

Now I am starting to feel silly for having ordered from Sony directly. Placed order on 10/30, at which point the website said "expected to ship within 1-2 business days". Received a confirmation message from Sony on the same day saying "Est Ship Date 10/30/14" (woo hoo!). Website showed "Backordered" and then "Preparing for Shipping" and then "Backordered" (again!), and now has been stuck on "Preparing for Shipping" since yesterday.

I called and spoke to a friendly customer service representative who said that it may not ship until 11/17/14 (but evidently no guarantee of that). Evidently "preparing for shipping" doesn't mean more than the warehouse has stock - but not necessarily enough for all the orders that have been placed.

This is feeling like a bit of a bait-and-switch.

Has anyone actually received one from Sony directly?

A guy on XDA recieved one. Same model as B&H. I'd cancel if I was you. B&H has white left as of an hour ago. I ordered another one in Black for my son at 3pm and it's already shipped. And it's already sold out again in Black. I'm still thinking that Sony is feeding their authorized retailers first and leaving direct orders out to dry. That's just wrong.

The different versions of the D5803 are contained in firmware only. If you have the hardware, you have the choice of changing it to a different region's firmware. It looks like you do have a Latin American version since yours starts with 1290. I'm going to flash my firmware to the US version later tonight.

what is the advantage of flashing it to US firmware?

I'm confused because the guy on XDA recieved his from Sony with the same numbers. He literally just recieved from Sony with the 1290 #. Wonder what is different? BTW mine also has a USA safety guidelines pamphlet and FCC info on the box.I'm thinking that there is no different besides the # because it's really all the same region.

I haven't flashed mine yet so I'll find out. I'm hoping it optimized the antennas for US frequencies. I'll let you know in a few hours.

Mine too. English was on the top of the pile of pamphlets that come in all different languages. My S5 was the same way though. A bunch of copies of the same stuff in different languages. The only way you can tell my phone is an international model is the charger it came with.

I don't know where they got that information from, but it looks like it was compiled before the US versions of the D5803 were even released. My US Z3 Compact came from Sony USA and like the others who got theirs from B&H, it's a 1290. There wasn't any foreign bloatware pre-installed in it either.

It is pretty annoying how Sony handled stocking enough phones. They probably never had a successful product before.

Here's a post from XDA.

If you have 1290-0539, that's the (white) U.S. Region Customization version.*

This seems to be how the U.S. regional codes of the D5803 are arranged:

1290-0538 = U.S. region black
1290-0539 = U.S. region white
1290-0542 = U.S. region orange
1290-0543 = U.S. region green

The decimal point after the 8-digit region customization code I'm not so sure of, but I did have a decimal (.5) at the end of my U.S. region Xperia ZL (C6506, Region Code 1270-6441.5) that I bought not too long ago. Maybe the decimal refers to production batches or production location, or warehouse location, who knows. It only seems to be present on the box, not on the pull-out ID card or in the hidden configuration menu listing of the region code.*

Other examples of regional customization code stuff:

Before I bought the U.S. region version, I also owned a Mexico region Xperia ZL (C6506, Region Code 1272-9003); besides having the different region code from my U.S. version, it also had a Mexican cellular carrier splash screen (MoviStar MX) and the default language was Spanish. (It's bootloader was not unlockable either, because it was branded to a carrier.) The box itself looked the same as the U.S. region ZL box that I bought later on, except that the specifications label on the side was all in Spanish. I later flashed the Mexico region ZL using the U.S. region firmware.*

When I bought the full-sized Xperia Z3 (D6603, Region Code 1288-1977.3) from Clove Technology in the U.K. a few weeks ago, it came with U.K. English as the default language and included a U.K. A/C charging head, ear buds and a USB OTG cable. It also only displayed "4G" in the status bar even when I was using 4G LTE here in Las Vegas, because apparently there is no differentiation in the U.K. between "4G" and "4G LTE". (Speed tests verified that I was using 4G LTE speeds while only "4G" was displayed) Later, after I flashed the Generic International firmware on it, it's default language became U.S. English, it then included the Android browser (as well as Chrome), and it then displayed "4G LTE" in the status bar. (I later flashed back the stock U.K. region firmware before parting with it to get the Compact instead.) Notice that the Region Code for this Z3 also had the decimal number, for whatever reason; in this case the decimal was ".3"

Cheers,

So as you can see, it is confirmed that these B&H are good to go and USA versions. ;)

It is pretty annoying how Sony handled stocking enough phones. They probably never had a successful product before.

I would probably have been okay with the waiting of they had been more upfront about the delay. I got another message from Sony today with an estimate of a 11/10 ship date, so I guess I will give them a chance to deliver rather than canceling, but their stocking/estimating seem to have a lot of room for improvement.

Perhaps this is just the nature of ordering a new product? Apple sure has had issues with stocking the new versions of the new iPhone, for example. But at least they got stock into a broad range of retail channels with a clearly designated release date. (My wife got one on launch day at Target!) Sony's approach has had a lot more uncertainty involved.

Sorry if this question is a little out of the blue, but I'm wondering what is in the box for those who order from the Sony Store (USA)? Do we get the Sony MDR-NC31E noise canceling headphones, because that is seriously something I am looking for. Does anyone know which vendors include these headphones?

Thanks!

None include them that I am aware of. They did not come in mine from B&H and others who got theirs from Sony said they did not receive them as part of their package either. Actually I just received a pair of MDR-NC31E headphones today. Totally worth it!
