Anyone encrypted/going to encrypt their Moto X Pure Edition/Moto X Style?

Curious if anyone else is planning on encrypting their device and sd card. I tend to prefer it as it is incredibly easy to copy data off a phone otherwise.

Also curious if anyone sees a noticeable performance hit.

I'm going to have to encrypt because I use my work email on my device and their policy requires it.

I'll be interested to hear how that works. I'm wary of encrypting after the experience I had with a couple of devices, including Moto X 2014, on 5.0.1. Haven't tried it since.

Have no issues with encryption on my first gen Moto X.

Are you on 5.1? I encrypted my 2014 X and my Google Play Edition tablet when they first upgraded to lollipop. It was an awful experience. To be fair, the unencrypted experience turned out to be not good on either device until they were upgraded to 5.1.

Same here, I feel like it killed my nexus 5.

I'm not noticing any performance issues after encryption.

Encrypted for 2 days here and so far so good, certainly not having the performance issues I had on the nexus 5.

I also plan on giving that guy a factory reset and seeing how it does without the encryption.

Love the MXPE so far, very happy.

The only times I've encrypted was right before selling a phone to wipe the data, but would be interested in seeing how performance is/isn't affected with it enabled.

I'm gun shy after my X 2014 issue. However, I think I'll encrypt once we get the M update.

I've been debating it. For how I use my phone, the encryption is a false sense of security.

The email can be had from the servers my accounts are on, I use some cloud services that will similarly serve up my data with a warrant.

Encrypting my phone would just slow down the police, not stop them. And if stolen, I don't keep anything valuable or risky on the phone anyway.

When the ROM choices start rolling out, I may be more likely to encrypt depending how it's baked into the ROM.

One last caveat. Depending how you set up your SD card storage in Marshmallow, your SD card may or may not be encrypted. My understanding is that if you set your SD card as internal storage, it will be encrypted. For my purposes, that's not useful as I need to use the SD card on multiple devices.

I will not be encrypting my phone. I am glad that I have a choice in the matter. The next device I get will have it enabled by default. I hope that I am able to disable encryption. I understand that security is a major thing that Android is trying to emphasize but seeing some performance issues as a result has me worrisome of how an encrypted device would last over the course of two years.

I'm seeing no noticeable performance issues while encrypted on my Moto X Pure Edition.

Hopefully you can say that this time next year.

I ran my first gen Moto X encrypted for about a year (second half of my two years with it). No noticeable difference either.

I have encrypted my MXPE and do not feel any lag in performance. But don't know how to encrypt external sdcard.
